I ate Sushi ...

Yes. I did. I tried to get out of it, because dd had a mini day, but Traci said she could come along too! A great experience for her as well ... sigh ... I ran out of excuses. ;) I will say, I like the CHICKEN teriyaki roll. That was very good. Cassie had the Golden CA which had cooked crab in it. That wasn't to bad. It had a small fishy taste after, but not to bad. Then Traci made me eat I don't remember what is was called ... but it had raw fish on top (salmon I think). Oh man, I had to work up to that one .... REALLY work up to that one. So, I can say I ate sushi. I like the chicken. The rest ... well, I appreciate the experience Traci tried to share with me!! :D {Notice her youngest son, Joshia, had Cheeto's for lunch ... I was thinking of grabbing that bag out of his little hands at one point! LOL!! :p} Her older son also had sushi crab stuff. Can't remember the name of that either.

Trying not to grimmace at the crab!! LOL!!

So, there you have it. Sorry sushi lovers ... :p Think I will stick to what I love ... cooked chicken! :D

Sigh. She ate chicken people. Even her dd said her chicken roll was gross. Cassie had a deep fried california roll and Karsten had 2 normal california rolls.

BTW Josiah likes sushi but gets embarrassed because he has a hard time eating it, thus the cheetos.

At LEAST she tried it. Though she totally exaggerates the non existent fishy taste. sigh.

*giggles* Traci, you can bring the sushi to the girl......

Some people just have this idea in their heads about sushi, and can't get around that. My sister is like that. But kudos for you for trying to broaden her palette!! :)

Well yay Heidi for trying! Sushi grows on you....I believe like fine wine it is an acquired taste. So, you must not stop with one experience. :p

My whole family loves it! We even have our own set of family chop sticks. No wooden splintery ones for us! LOL

How fun and good for you for trying it. There are only a few rolls I'll eat and nothing raw, but what I do eat I love!

Yes, kudos to you for trying it!!! I'm not into sushi either... so I totally get it. ;)

Yay.. Kudos for trying it ! I thought sushi was gross, but when I first tried it... DH (my boyfriend at the time) took me to japanese restaurants for 3 weekends in a row. lol

Now you come here and bring me some sushi ! :p

Where are you guys eating at? I haven't found a good sushi place up there, but then again, my parents don't eat it...so it isn't something they would've taken me to. My brother and his family will be there at the end of the month, and I'd love to give them the name(s) of some other places to eat there. We always end up at Tofanelli's, or if we do Chinese, my parents have to go to Wonderful 3. I'll probably be up there soon too, so I'd love to take my sis-in-law there!

I have to say...congrats on at least trying it.

It's called Arigatos and it's across the street from the Galleria mall. All their rolls are 50% off all the time so it's yum yum AND cheap :)

LOL!! What mall? Was this in Rocklin, or up closer to where Traci lives? My parents live in Grass Valley.

oops...posted at the same time!

Galleria...that's the one in Rocklin (or is it Roseville)?

Yummy!!!!! I love sushi! I am glad you tried it. The other girls are right though.....you should give it a few more goes before totally wiping your hands of it. My whole family loves it.
Now I am totally craving sushi.......a California roll and spicy crab roll. Oh and a spicy shrimp one too. Darn it girls!!!! I am totally having this craving at 10pm and NO WHERE is open to fix this! I should stop reading the forums in the evening. LOL

I'm right there with you Heidi!! Now, we just need to figure how to get together and we can go eat real chicken without all the other stuff!!!!!

I'll never forget when I tried it (and hated it), my friend banned me from spitting it out because she said it cost too much for my "unrefined palate" to waste.
:D

As long as you're not prepared to eat sushi contaning fish, you shouldn't try that one and stick with vege (as somebody said, sushi doesn't equal raw fish). The problem is in the head, and if you feel repulsed by the idea, than I guess it's not time for you yet. Maybe the time will never come, maybe it will.

I'm from Slovakia, and it's not even very customary to eat fish there (only at Christmas, and even that is fried -- which, these days, gives me the creeps... fried fish, come on, what's the point). After five years in Luxembourg, heavily under the influence of French cuisine, I started eating mussels and shrimps even without thinking about it (and enjoying it), and came to the point when I'm totally disappointed in Slovak or German shops as they have no fresh fish on their offer (frozen? come on!). That was the point when I knew I could eat raw fish without any problems. And that's when I did it. If somebody offered it to me like 5 years ago, I would be just like you. So I can relate all too well.

Since I don't think you'll be spending any time in a French-cuisine environment (or any other fish-eating culture), I think it will be kind of hard for you to overcome the attitude you have right now. But I think you can live just fine even that way. :-)

Anyway, what did you like about the taste in general? The wasabi, soya sauce, pickled ginger etc.?

P.S. I'm surprised that they offer chicken as an option where you live! Hereabouts it's either fish (incl. crabs etc.) or vege.

For many years we would only eat the sushi that had cooked fish in it. Then one day we "accidentally" got the raw kind, and didn't figure it out until the next time we were there. By that point we'd already eaten it so we couldn't say we didn't like it anymore.

Now we'll eat any kind. And if anything, I prefer the raw. It's not as "fishy" and much milder. It's cooking that makes the fishy taste come out. And the texture isn't as odd as you'd think, obviously, as we ate raw and didn't know it. :p

But I don't mind if other people don't want/like sushi. More for me.
