A cry for (Photoshoppy) help. Kind of urgent.

Hi there.

I've been struggling with this for some time, ending up feeling pretty much like a loser. What I need is to arrive at checkers like this in Photoshop, but I need them to be superprecise (at format DIN A2):

Whatever I've tried to do so far ended up with some minor imprecisions. I start to feel very, very frustrated. I know it might be easier in CorelDraw, but I'd love to be able to do it in PS.

Thanks for anyone who can help.

I would turn on my grid to do something like that and select Snap To Grid Lines. It'll make your lines touch perfectly.

View - Snap To - Grid

Hope this helps!

Thanks. I must be especially lame, because that's exactly what I did. However, at 1600% I can see it's not perfect.

I'm absolutely amazed at the fact that it doesn't work. Because it should, in my opinion, and if you think so too, then I'm obviously thinking in a good direction.

What I would do is make the shapes slightly larger than you need them to be and then overlap them such that the shapes are the sizes you want. You can also use the Align tools and Ruler Guides to make sure everything lines up right.

Thanks.

It's in moments like these when I realise how little I know despite all those years of trying.

Which part of it is imprecise -- the size of the shapes or the alignment? You should be able to use the rectangular marquis tool to make the blocks exactly the size you want, then align the layers to have them line up?

You can also use the shape tool to do this. Under the little blue arrow in the toolbar, there's an option for Fixed Size.

About what's imprecise -- it's the alignment. It's unnerving, really. I've never done this kind of work in PS, so I was bound to stumble. It's ironic that the reason why I choose the checkers was their being easy-peasy (that's what I thought, at least).

There must be something wrong with me, because I actually tried everything as said and still I keep seeing irregularities at really big magnification -- I must have messed up majorly at some point.

Still, thanks a lot for your tips, ladies!

If you do not see the imperfections when you are zoomed in, then they aren't actually there. I know that there are times when I have one layer behind another and I know they are perfectly alligned, but when I zoom out I see a sliver on one side. It's just a sort of glitch in the program... it will not show up that way in a printed version. However, if it's the web version that you are after than I can understand the frustration because I've dealt with that before!

Actually, this might be the logical explanation...

What I'm going for is offset print in DIN A2 format (which, if I'm not mistaken, is termed "broadsheet" in US, anyway, it's 420 x 595 mm) and you have to be rather precise for such a big format.

Thanks!
