View Full Version : How to make a break from the Challenges

I worked for 11 hours yesterday, so today I feel like a little zombie and feel like spamming the forum. :-)
So let me say how I ended up with the Challenges this month. I've been kind of planning to take a break in March, but couldn't resist and ended up with 30 points anyway (you can understand the addiction, can't you). In April I started early and accumulated 5 points right away.
Than boom! My laptop got sick - I still have no idea what's wrong, and hope to see the problem solved sometime next week (*knocks on wood*). Still, this means those first 5 points were also my last. ;-)
There's a good side to this - I hope to have Windows7 installed instead of XP, and I was finally able to make the well-deserved break. I felt ubertired after about 6 months of sleep deprivation (I spent 3 months with Christmas crafts and 2010 calendars and 3 months with the SSD Challenges, and as I normally work late, it meant I didn't get much sleep), but I simply had no strength to make a break myself. Got to love my PC for recognizing the right moment. Careful little creature, it is. Can't be even angry at it. :-)
There's not much point to this, but I thought I'd share - I find it funny that every month where I didn't want to get too involved in the Challenges I found myself hooked, and the only month where I planned to be hooked I ended up on "vacation". :-)

Haha, that seems to be how it always works!
I have been battling insomnia for two years now, but it worsened last month. I started setting larger scrapping goals for myself, since I was awake anyway.
Now I'm stuck in bed with a serious cold/infection/etc and have been sleeping about 15 hours a day. I guess my body decided to kick the insomnia for me!
I hope your computer gets better, and that your break is helpful!

So far it's helped.
I go to bed earlier -- I don't get up earlier, though, so I was right all those years where it felt like a pity to go to sleep early and deprive myself of a considerable portion of my free time... I know I need 9 hours to get a good sleep, and that seems such a waste. I was so tired from my 5-hour sleep routine though that I started to worry about myself. So it's sleep and reading books now.
My "abstinence" is also good for my dry-eye syndrome that has gotten really bad over the past few months.
It's also kind of refreshing NOT to sit at Photoshop at night. I'm still addicted and I know I'll be doing it again, but I actually enjoy this break and feel I should do it more often. Even though I'd prefer my computer stay OK next time and go to "rehab" on a voluntary basis. ;-)
That's the reason why I'm not rushing the laptop reinstallation, I think the longer the pause is, the better for me (see, normally I'd be desperate if I was without PS for this long).
Loads of luck with your insomnia!

I also wanted to take a break in April, but my muse is still resisting to scrap... 13 points are on the way towards the 11 already earned... I think I will end up again with 30+ which means - spending in May! Yay!

See, that's why I needed a break. :-)
But it's cool if you can make it again!

Now you warn me! I'm a challenge newbie...just started getting my pages posted last night. I don't even know if I can shop or not at this point...the points are just a way to set/have a goal. lol!
I'm hoping to finish the other two pages for #31 then get into my recycled hybrid album next. (just in case I DO get some shopping money, I'm going for the big points first!)

Don't worry, I didn't want to scare anyone! See, I was a Photoshop addict long before the Challenges, and long before scrapbooking. And I also do a lots of crafts, and kind of overdid that too. Just before the Challenges started, I was done with about 40 elaborate Christmas decorations (like this (http://www.flickr.com/photos/helenvader/sets/72157622862051132/)), 35 hand-painted postcards, a real wall calendar, about 13 personal laminated calendars... you get the picture. I have a demanding job, so it had to be done until late at night, and I guess I overdid it big time. That's why I feel kind of happy to have a pause. But that's just me!
I just found it amusing that the only thing that could get me to have a break was a lame computer, not my own willpower, even though I knew it was the sensible thing to do. :-) I was sensible enough though to resist all things crafty, so that there is some point to the break.
The Challenges are super fun, I hope you'll be enjoying them and get as many points as possible. :-)
