...my Dyson is not working very well at all. :( i've had it for about 4 years. its time to let go, lol. the hose works okay so i'll keep it for cleaning out my car. but i tried to sweep Chloe's room today and everything just kept getting clogged right underneath in the little hose or just blowing out the back. i've looked it over for clogs, cleaned out the filter and its still not working right. i took it in somewhere to be looked at and have already been told its better to get a new one than to pay $150+ it'll cost to replace the belt system thats going bad. i'm really sad, lol. i know its just a vacuum cleaner but i always wanted one and i've had it for so long and it always did so well. so i'm looking at the Bissell Pet Hair Erasure. it has great reviews and its $150. hope i wont be disappointed.

yeah I'd think for such an expensive vacuum that it would last more than 4 years :0/ Don't they offer some warranty with it?

I have a Dyson that I LOVE too. But I will be really upset at the company if it only lasts four years. They are way too expensive to need to be replaced that often. Hopefully there customer support is able to do something for you.

is the belt system really complex or something? I have never seen the underside of the Dyson but with all the vacuums I have ever owned I replaced the belts myself. (oh and I agree about contacting the company. We had a Shop-Vac which was several years old and the motor went out on it. My husband contacted them with the model # and the approximate date of purchase and they sent a brand new motor/topper everything for the top basically so it is like a brand new vacuum. Oh and at no cost to us!! The original vacuum was only like 40 or 50 dollars I think so it would have probably cost as much to have it repaired as to replace it)

Dyson has a 5 year warranty!!!!!! Call them!!! :) I have TWO dysons and totally love them. I had to use the warranty on my first one.

Oh and btw.....the reason for two is one is at my business and one is at home. I am not a dyson hoarder or anything! LOL

i have an older dyson, the DC07. when i took it in to the vacuum place they said that the belt system on the dysons (atleast my older one) is a bit complex; you cant just replace the belts or whatever you have to buy the whole motor or something and its over $150. i just went to Walmart and bought a $100 Bissell. not the Pet Hair Erasure but it already picked up a bunch of hair that my dyson missed yesterday! DH says that when we get a bigger house he'll get my another Dyson. right now i only have 3 small rooms with carpet and we just can't afford a dyson right now.

i don't even have the receipt anymore or anything. i didnt think mine had a five year warranty. i gone through the troubleshooting and i've already done all that it says, lol. i think its just worn out. poor thing.

Yeah, so I wanted a Dyson super bad, too. Dh got me an Oreck and I totally withdrew my want for a Dyson. :)

i don't think i even registered it when i bought it. i went to the website and even tried to register it and it kept saying its an invalid serial number. oh well.

Don't get the pet hair eraser I have one and they are so NOT worth it - I would suggest just getting your Dyson Fixed - I want one so bad, but with us going overseas - Im just waiting -

I love my oreck too!! My mom got us one for a wedding gift... it has a 21 year warranty.

Even though you don't have the receipts, I would still give it a go and call... the worst thing they could say is that they can't help you.

I have a Dyson and I find when it stops picking up stuff, it's usually because the beater brush on the bottom is clogged up with hair. Then I usually have to remove the brush part (which is a royal pain!) and cut the hair off so that it starts working again. Apparently I shed a lot. I'm not sure if that's your problem but you might look at the bottom and see. We've had the vacuum for like 3 years now and I've had to do it several times.

I would have definitely contacted Dyson before you bought anything else! Everyone I know that has one says their customer service is awesome. Like Rebecca said, the worst they could have said is that they couldn't help. You never know, they might have fixed it, they probably only needed the serial number or something!

I'd still call them!

i do that on a regular basis lol. and since i apparently didnt register the vacuum when i bought it i didnt think the warranty was any good. the vacuum i just bought was only $98. its not like i went out and bought another dyson. i suppose i'll still call them out of curiosity.

Oh ok, just thought I'd mention it because I tend to forget about it and get annoyed that the ridiculously expensive vacuum won't pick up crap. :D But I'd still give them a call and see if they can help you.

4 years is not long at all!! Our first vacuum (cheap like... $100-$150) lasted us 6 1/2 years. We replaced it with another cheap one that didn't even last a year... so we checked reviews and got a cheap bissell and it works SOOOOO good. Good enough for us. I don't think I could rationalize spending so much on a vacuum if a cheap one does good enough!

I LOVE my Dyson, and it is going 6.5 years strong (it had one episode where the on/off button didn't work but they fixed/shipped it for free). And I agree with Lynette...I must shed a bunch because that and the grass at Easter time gets it slowing down!

I was just commenting today to my boys (who love my vacuum too and help me) that it picks up SOOOOOO much dust and dog hair! I'd just be so heartbroken if it breaks especially since now we are out of warranty! I tried my parents Oreck and it was good, but not my Dyson!

Yup...I would definitely give Dyson a call...what do you have to lose?!

I clean my brush frequently and have checked the little areas that open for any clogs occassionally. But for a while mine wasn't doing as hot of a job as usual...I realized there was one place I didn't realize even opened right below the hose. When I checked it I found a toothbrush and a children's sock!! My hubby said "I thought I had sucked one of those up once, but I never found it..." Hello!!!
I was impressed that it was still vacuuming well even with the toothbrush and sock :) It was like a new vacuum after I got those out! LOL!!
Also, you're probably already doing this, but there is the one filter you take out, rinse in water, and let dry overnight. That could affect the suction too...but probably not too much.

Sad! I would be so bummed if mine quit!! Had it about 5 years and I love it...bought it off ebay....about $250 cheaper since the packaging was damaged.

Guess we all feel your pain! Lots of responses about vacuuming!! :-)
