I'm going to NYC the weekend after Thanksgiving! It's my first trip to the Big Apple and I'm going with DH and my sister and her husband. NO KIDS!!!! Anyone have any ideas for things to do, places to eat, etc.

Thanks!!!

Oh my goodness, there's SO much!! You'll have to go see the tree at Rockafeller, check out St. Patricks cathedral, walk around 5th ave (if it's not bitterly cold, lol), carriage ride in central park, see a show and then walk around Times Square and just feed off the energy.

Gosh, I love NYC, lol. I wish I had taken advantage of it when I lived up there (not in the city but close). Now I'm 4 hours away and never get a chance to go into the city. I'll just live through you ;)

Depends what you like to eat. I think I cook for myself less than 50 times a year. It's senseless in this city with so much goodness out there (and other people to do the dishes).

Have fun! I always wondered what it would be like not live here. If you can score tickets, Wicked is a pretty good show.

Not sure if it's something you're interested in - isn't the Holocaust Museum in NY? I've heard it's disturbing (realizing what humankind can do to it's own) but I'm fascinated by that part of history, personally...

I eat pretty much anything, but my sister is picky, no seafood. I think we are going to eat off the street most of the time, but if you have a place that's not too expensive (dh is already stressing about the $, LOL) you think we would like, please share!

We are going to Rockefeller Center; I can't miss the tree!

I'd love to see Wicked (great book) - well, any show actually!

I'm just afraid I'm going to freeze! I'm a FL gal 100%!

Penny, I'm an Orlando FL resident from NY!! Woo hoo!! I have a whole list at home (Word doc) of what to do in NYC that I created for a co-worker. If you pm me your email address I can email it to you when I get home later.

I saw Wicked on Broadway - AMAZING! If you plan on seeing it buy the soundtrack first. It's fun to sing along and you'll be more excited for the show :-) It's a hard ticket to get - sometimes buying ahead of time is the way to go. But there are tons of other b'way shows that are great. I haven't seen The Little Mermaid but that just came out on b'way, Mary Poppins is AMAZING, and there are tons more. (I'm a Broadway baby!)

Oh fun! I haven't been there in years, I was only like 12 or 13 the one and only time we were there. I remember the weather was crazy, snowing one day, hot the next. There's plenty of places to eat though. Sorry, no help here! Have a great time!

ooh I'm in Pa and used to live about 45 min from the city its an awesome place!! The Hard Rock Cafe in NY is awesome! I went to eat there a lot when I was younger. (and I'm only 27 now lol)

And it's going to be COLD!!! Jackets and sweaters are going to be a must have while you're visiting up here :) I hope you have a blast i LOVE the city :) Could never live there though lol

Don't know if it is something you would want to see, but going to Ground Zero is definitely an experience. It's such an amazing site to see. But it may be a little sad to see on your trip but worth it.

The Big Apple Bus Tour is also cool! You get to see basically all of the city and you can get off an on whenever you want. I'm sure they are still doing it now after all this time but great for tourists :)

Thank you so much, everyone!

MP - I PMed you!

That Frozen Hot Chocolate sounds awesome!

Ground Zero is a must, I think.

The bus tour sounds fun!

I hope we can get tickets to Wicked, but I'm not holding out too much hope!
Anything else!?

I would see if some of the resident NYers can give some hole in the wall places to eat..those are normally the best!! There's a thread at another forum I'll go see if I can copy some of the info that was there :) be back!!

Ok here's some random things the thread said to make sure and do :)

Make sure to walk through Central Park. Walk down 5th Ave. and check out the nice stores. We actually LOVE the Circle Line bus tours (I think that's the one.....) with the red double-decker buses. It's a great trip through the city and they teach you lots of little facts!!

The Staten Island ferry is free and you get a great view of the city from the water

If you want to see a show youc an buy your tickets on braodway they have a ticketboth whichyou can not miss in black and yellow. They open at noon I beleive. You can never be sure what they will have but they always have great shows for sale. There will be a line so I suggest you arrive early

If you like getting up early, it's fun to see the crowd that turns out in Rockefeller for the Today show and at Times Square for Good Morning America... The ticket booth someone else referenced is "TKTS" and is a GREAT way to see a show. (opens around noon) I've always gotten great tickets that way.

If you like cathedrals/architecture, I love walking into St. Patrick's Cathedral on 5th Ave. (right near Rockefeller). It's also an experience to browse Saks Fifth Ave. It's like a museum to me!

Checking out Canal St. downtown is always interesting, and you'll be right near some of the great Italian restaurants in Little Italy

(these are just bits from a diff thread...not my personal experiences...I've only seen the NYC/Manhattan stuff, been to some restraunts, and the Statue of Liberty)
