that is reasonably simple as I have never really done hybrid before and any simple attempts haven't worked out or I have given up mid way through
I quite like this one

however I think this one might be more achievable for me

This is probably quite simple, it looks like all Juli did was scrap a 4x6 "page" and slipped it in to a 4x6 acrylic frame (you can find them a place like Wal MArt here in the states for $1) and then probably glued the post it notes to something sturdy (card board/chipboard) and then attached that to the frame with probably something like heavy craft glue.
Here is what the frame probably looks like

And now that I actually look at this one it's almost the same thing but the frame is "laying down" it looks like instead of "standing up"!!!
I bet these didn't take more then 30 minutes to make!! You could totally do something like this Jennifer!!!!

I am just thinking of these for a couple of extra little gifts for family - one for my grandmother to have by her phone in the kitchen and one for my aunty to have at work (im sure she will love something in her fav color pink where as for my grandma I will do it in the colors of her kitchen)

no problem - this year our family is going cheap ($20) and practical so I thought using some of my existing supplies it might just be doable

would something like this work for the acrylic base or not?

yes, I would just flip it so that the bottom of the stand is actually the back for ease of writing on the post it note

Thats what I was thinking but I just wanted to make sure before I sent out my mum on a wild goose chase in a few hours for hybrid supplies for me since I am still not able to leave the house yet

one thing I am worried about is that because I am using a smaller acrylic base that using smaller post it notes would end up being not as effective for the user as the standard large ones - here are the ones I think I am going to have to use to match these bases

I suppose it depends on what they would use it for... I use the smaller ones because I don't write big notes, just a phone number or something like that so if you make something for next to the phone it would be perfect, but I don't know what size your Aunty would want for work, she might be happy with the smaller ones if she's just writing a quick note here and there.

I ended up finding some 5x7 pageframes that I am going to use for my acrylic base instead-might as well use up supplies and save money while I am at it

Jennifer, what part of Auckland are you in? Payless Plastics at the Manukau Super Centre are having a 50% off sale, and they have/had a ton of those acrylic frames. I might actually pop in there today and see if there are any left for me too.

I have what I need for this project except for this paper but I live in Papakura - I don't usually let that stop me because my mum travels all over Auckland now to borrow library books.

one thing I didn't see in Juli's tutorial is how she attached the post it notes to the acrylic - can anyone shed some light on that?

I imagine the easiest way would be to cut a little piece of chipboard (a cereal box or something like that would be perfect) to the same size of the Post-It pad. Then glue the Post-It pad to the chipboard piece and when that is dry, glue the Post-It pad w/ the chipboard back to the acrylic.
Hope this helps!

I made some several years ago. They are very cute and easy. Just flip the frame "upside down" so that it slants uphill. I hot glued my notepad to the frame. I think I'll go make some for this year...

Jennifer what a cute idea! thank you for asking about it ... we were trying to figure out easy and inexpensive things to sell in the robotic team's Santa Shop next year ... this would be a darling project! Thanks for bringing it up!!

I totally missed this thread! I just peeled off the back of the post it note pad and pressed REALLY hard on the back. I didn't want to permanently adhere it to the frame since I go through post-its pretty quickly, but you could apply a little rubber cement to give it some more stick.

this is what I was thinking because I would want the ability to add another post it note pad to my frame :)
