So What's on YOUR Thanksgiving Menu?

I can't believe it's less than 2 weeks away! Our meal is going to be the most different yet since I've gone starch- and sugar-free for a couple of months and won't be able to enjoy any starchy Thanksgiving dishes (dressing, potatoes, sweet potatoes, traditional pies). Searching for a menu that'll work for this year has been an interesting process, but I'm excited to see how it turns out.

Our menu:

prosciutto wrapped pears
Turkey breast or small whole turkey
flourless gravy
cranberry sauce
broccoli & cauliflower casserole
mashed potatoes (for my kids & hubby)
cauliflower dressing
pumpkin pie
Paleo fudgy brownies

What are you having?

Joana, you know I love you dearly, but dude... if I can't have potatoes and pie, I won't be coming to your house for Thanksgiving. ;)

No seriously, we're going down and spending Thanksgiving with my sister this year. They sort of have a big pot luck with her hubby's family, so there's no real set menu. I do know my sis will be bringing homemade mac & cheese (OMG it's AMAZING) and homemade rolls (again.. OMG). And she makes the BEST pies, so I'm sure there will be plenty of those, too.

For me, it's not thanksgiving without green bean casserole, but they didn't have it last year! So, either I'm going to have to make it myself while we're there, or I'll have to get over it and have it with dinner one night when we get home. LOL

ETA: i'm fairly certain my weight gain at my next dr appt after Thanksgiving will be monumental. LOL

We haven't nailed down our menu for sure, but it'll be the traditional stuff:

Turkey
Mashed Potatoes and Gravy
Salad
Rolls
Some sort of veggie (corn, green beans)
Candied Sweet Potatoes/Yams
Cranberry Sauce
Pies for Dessert (Pumpkin, Apple)

Ahhh - I LOVE Thanksgiving!

Turkey
Cornbread Dressing
Cranberry Sauce
Mashed Potatoes
Gravy
Corn
Sweet Potato Casserole
Green Bean Casserole
Deviled Eggs
Rolls

Pumpkin Pie
And I don't know whatelse yet for dessert.

As someone that was off wheat last year - I totally feel for you, Joana!

I always have to be super traditional for my hubby's family... :glare: But this is good... I haven't made out my list of what I need for the store - so this is a start... lol!

Oven Roasted brined turkey
Homemade stuffing (shoot - I just realized I have to make it this year since my Mom won't be here... ugh!)
Deluxe Mashed Potatoes (deluxe is the cream cheese and garlic)
gravy
green been casserole
butternut squash
homemade cranberries
cookie salad
spring salad
apple salad
cranberry jello salad
Dorothy's broccoli salad
cole slaw
glazed carrots
taco dip
veggie tray
cheese tray
salsa and chips (on the fence about that - my MIL takes the salsa dish with her all over the house and eats it )
potato chips and dip
pumpkin pie
apple pie
and I'll need two other deserts/bars...

We are going to be with my SIL this year so I can't say for sure what the menu will be but I know that this stuff will be on there:

Turkey
Ham (there are several family members that don't eat turkey including DH)
gravy (it's like the packaged stuff or from a jar)
Scalloped corn
rolls
cranberry sauce
green bean casserole
pumpkin pie

I'm going to bring caramel stuffed apple cider cookies, probably chocolate chip cookies, and maybe Pioneer Woman's mac and cheese.

It's just the 7 of us this year and we normally just have most of the "traditional" stuff!

Turkey
Mashed Potatoes/Gravy
Green Bean Casserole
Baked Corn
Big thick Amish Noodles
Homemade Rolls
Pumpkin Pie/whip cream

We're traditional here:

Turkey
Mashed potatoes
Green Been casserole (I'm with ya Libby on GB casserole)
Cornbread dressing
Sweet potato casserole
corn
Bacon-wrapped aspargus
Rolls
Pecan Pie
Sweet Potato Pie

We usually have Pumpkin Pie and dressing because my mother makes those but this year she and my dad are traveling down to Lower LA to spend the holiday with my grandmother.

Ribs
Cornbread
Mac & Cheese
Corn
Pumpkin Pie

We do traditional at my in-laws. I bring the corn bread stuffing. At my parent's we do something a bit different. We normally have steak. :)

We are having Thanksgiving a few days later on Sunday with my sister and her kids and my parents. It will be the same as every year except for desserts, which is the one dish we are willing to experiment with :p

Turkey for the carnivores (which aren't Cheyanne and I - LOL)
Gravy - as above
Chestnut stuffing
German red cabbage
Mashed potatoes (I can do without but my mother cannot)
Candied sweet potatoes
Mashed buttercup squash
Creamed onions
Peas

Dessert this year I have heard is Caramel Apple Pie and Pumpkin Cheesecake

I'm hosting & it will be the first time my dad & his wife will be coming to a holiday at our house, in the 6 years DH & I have been together/married. I mentioned doing non-traditional, and just doing a fingerfood/dessert bar, but got the axe on that.

So our traditional (made with new recipes) menu includes, that I'm making:
Citrus Herb Turkey (turkey stuffed with oranges/lemons, herbs)
Twice Baked Sweet potatoes with Pecan topping
Cranberry Apple Sauce (it's sooooo yummy!)
Green Bean Walnut Salad
Dinner Rolls
Pumpkin Cheesecake (with fresh pureed pumpkin)

My Step-mom is making the dressing. Not sure what everyone else is bringing. But I'm sure someone will bring mashed potatoes. & more desserts/appetizers.

Thanksgiving at my ILs will just be the usual Sunday crowd, so I finally talked MIL down into a less extensive menu since there will be only be 4 adults, a toddler, and an old lady who eats like a toddler. :p Unfortunately, I can't remember what exactly we decided on or what I volunteered to make, and she is notorious for being scatterbrained, so who knows?! A smaller turkey, my special mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, rolls, and GF brownies seem to strike me as what we discussed.

Thanksgiving at my parents' is always ultra-traditional. I have tried desperately to get new things added to the menu, but my sister is the boss of the family and everything has to be EXACTLY.THE.SAME as it was at her first Thanksgiving 27 years ago [insert eyeroll here], so turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, etc. will be served. I will have to come up with a GF dessert for DH to eat because I'm sure Mom will make pumpkin pie and be done with it.

Well - Thanksgiving has always been one crazy stress ball after another (too many details that I won't bore you with). It's been my dream to just do something really small and NOT go to ANY family dinners. One time we joked that we'd fix nachos and watch football and just relax all day - and it kinda stuck. I've been dreaming of that for years now...

FINALLY we are away from ALL family and we have the choice to do ANYTHING we want. And you better believe I'm doing nachos! We're gonna watch football and have a great day as a family (completely stress free!!).

YAY!! :D

FYI -- all of your dinners sound delicious! ALMOST makes me wanna be home, but not quite, lol.

Well, we do in-laws on Thanksgiving day. My MIL is NOT a cook. She opens a cans of corn, green beans, and sweet potatoes, and pops them in the microwave and puts it on the table. My FIL makes a pretty good turkey, so at least that's edible. One year, she whipped the potatoes so much that they ended up like rubber bands...not.even.kidding. So my SILs and I have "offered" to bring most of the side dishes this year, and they are just making the turkey. At least we'll have some good food on Thanksgiving, finally :D

For my side of the family, I'm hosting for the first time. I'm SO excited! I love to cook! We're having:

Brined turkey breasts
Bacon, apple, and cranberry dressing
Mashed potatoes
Gravy
Homemade noodles (I've FINALLY perfected my mom's recipe)
Roasted sweet potatoes with a sweet glaze
Roasted carrots
Corn pudding (a family recipe. It's a casserole, not a pudding, but that's what we call it)
Green beans (sorry, no casserole here. Onions, bacon and a splash of apple cider vinegar)
Salad
Some kind of bread/rolls (haven't decided yet)
Veggie noshin' tray
Pumpkin, apple crumb, and chocolate silk pies

Mmmm. Is it Thanksgiving yet?

We'll be at my folks for Thanksgiving as usual & it's all up to mom. I try to change things up a bit - honey & balsamic glazed carrots, roasted savory sweet potatoes, ham & cheese biscuits. But I'm always encouraged to 'just relax and be on vacation'. My mom hates to cook, you'd think she'd be happy to turn the sides over to me, but no. Oh well. So we will be having:
turkey
sweet potatoes that are basically dessert served with dinner
boiled canned green beans
corn on the cob
white bread
salad
pumpkin pie

I'm hosting my family this year (yay) and we will be having:

Summer sausage, cheese, & crackers
Bacon wrapped little smokies
Cheese roll
Turkey (fried) & Ham (Is that weird? We love both. Lol)
Stuffing (out of the box, because that's what we prefer)
Mashed potatoes & gravy
Green bean casserole
Rolls

And we will have lots of pies- pecan, apple, & coconut cream. Oh and Pumpkin Crisp.

We honestly don't go all crazy on holiday dinners, since we don't really have much of an extended family at all. We try to do something, because we want our kids to have good Thanksgiving memories, but it's a lot of work since it's just us and our kids. We do sort of cut corners by ordering the food from a local grocery that will supply a complete Thanksgiving dinner for a set price. It's really about the time spent together, not the time spent in the kitchen I think. We'll probably make one or two special items of our own.

We're having thanksgiving with some friends, so it's community food.
I do know we are having:

Turrkey
Ham
Cauliflower & Turnip Mash
Mashed Potatoes
Gravy
Corn pudding
Cheesy Carrots
Green Bean Casserole
Apple Cranberry Stuffing
Cranberry Relish
Parker House Rolls
Pumpkin Pie
Chocolate Pecan Pie
Bacon Smokies
Peanut Butter Dates
Chicken Puffs
Cinnamon Rolls

This is to feed 20, lol, so we need options

we do the traditional route-
turkey
mashed potatoes
stuffing
green beans with almonds
sweet potatoes with marshmallows
rolls
apple pie
blueberry pie
pumpkin pie

we're pretty boring. grama tried to do weird mashed potatoes (with prosciutto, ricotta, and three other cheeses) one year. and there was uproar. so we generally keep things the same.

We usually do fairly traditional around here. Since my mom moved up near us, mom and I take turns as to who hosts Thanksgiving. Whomever doesn't hosts Christmas. Mom is hosting the Thanksgiving meal this year, but I will make several of the dishes (especially since she is working the day before and I'm not).
Menu:
Hors d'ouevres
Turkey (fresh from the butcher)
mashed potatoes (for hubby)
mashed sweet potatoes (for mom and I)
green beans almondine
Stuffing
salad
fresh orange-cranberry relish
Chocolate-pumpkin pie (recipe from The Chew)
Cherry pie (for hubby in case he doesn't like the other pie as he doesn't normally like pumpkin pie)
plenty of wine :)

Mm it all sounds amazing, can I stay with someone for next thanksgiving as we don't celebrate it here?! ;)

:thumbdown:We're going even lower-key than usual this year. Devin's having oral surgery the day after Thanksgiving, so none of us really wants to do much of anything. Being a bit anal retentive about traditions though, I know we'll make the following:

Cranberry Jello Salad
Baked Mashed Potatoes
Sweet Potatoes...however Andrew decides to make them.

I suspect we'll do a pork roast, as we usually do. None of us like turkey enough to make it even for one day. There won't be pumpkin pie because of my cinnamon allergy.
