Has anyone compared Nook Tablet and Kindle Fire?

I want one of these two and my husband has already said he would buy one for christmas but I am not sure which one to ask for. I know I can go to Barnes & Noble to check out the Nook Tablet (at least I think it is out now) but is there someplace to see a Kindle Fire and try it out? Or anyone on here used both and give a comparison? I want to be able to use it for apps and email as well as reading. The backlight thing does not bother me like Ive read other people do not like. Id probably also use it for streaming videos/movies from netflix. It isn't such a huge price difference that that would really factor in to my decision. I have looked at the Nook Color for awhile now so I was kinda leaning toward the Nook Tablet

We went to B&N today and played with a Nook Tablet and I LOVED it! This is what I want for Christmas this year. DH compared the 2 and he said the main difference is that the Nook Tablet has an SD card slot and the Kindle Fire doesn't. Other than that you just have to decide if you want to get your books from Amazon or B&N.

That is another thing I was wondering. I see free books for Amazon all the time but never really saw them on Barnes and Noble.

B&N has tons of free books too - I have the NookColor. I mostly get my books from the library though and both Kindle and Nook have that option.

You can google some comparisons.

We saw the Kindle Fire this weekend at Best Buy. I was not impressed and there was not much to it. If I were to get my choice I would choose the Nook Tablet. Its just got more bells and whistles and I would keep my original Kindle (which I have and love).

I honestly believe the choice depends - those who LOVE the kindle will point you to the kindle fire and those that LOVE the nook will do the same. Each one has different features and depending on what you are looking for - that is the eeader you should go for. Here is a comparison that doesn't end with a suggestion on which to get but does let you know what is the best or not so best features of both eeaders. http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19736_7-57330571-251/kindle-fire-vs-nook-tablet-how-to-choose/

For the record, I have 3 kindles and am anxious to get the new Kindle Fire. I was already reading kindle books on my smartphone and itouch so had a good library to start with when I decided on the kindle. :)

I think I am going to ask for the Nook Tablet. I like the fact that it is explandable with an SD card so I am not limited to what is available on the device and I already have a membership at B&N and shop there for nearly all my books already.

I have the Nook Color and love it! I'm hoping that it will get the new software updates that will make it like the Nook Tablet.

Searching for free Nook books check this link http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-20087714-285/how-to-get-free-books-for-your-kindle-or-nook/

Also I subscribe to this site: The Cheap for links to free nook books.

Tip: when I find a free Nook Book and get it on the B & N website, it will also list other books for $0.00 Often I end up downloading several similar books.

Also check out: The Free Library of Philadelphia which is only free if: 1. you live in PA or 2. If you are a Senior Citizen. But Out-of-state residents can obtain a card by paying an annual fee of $35.00. (I'm not sure that would be worth it) but, I signed up my Senior citizen Mom and can download books for her and then read them when she is finished!

Check your State Library to see if you can check out books through them.

And of course the public library is my best source. Good Luck and have fun!

I got a call from my mother's bff asking me to research Nook and Kindle on Sunday ... I started reading online (including checking consumer reports) ... then went to Best Buy to look at them side by side ... we decided on the Kindle Fire ... partially because I know my mom will want to check her e-mail as well ... and I know she doesn't check on her phone because it is too small to read/cumbersome if you make the type bigger. The Fire was able to change the font very easily ... and the Best Buy person listened to us and how she would use it and suggested the Fire and told us all the reasons why.

You should sit down and check out the features side by side to see what you would use ...
