Photo Enlarging Software?

Can anybody recommend software to enlarge photos?

My wedding photographer gave me dvds with my wedding photos on them (along with permission to print and scrapbook with them), but she gave them to me in 4 x 6 at 300 dpi. I really want to print out some larger photos--at 8 x 10 and maybe a large canvas, but I keep getting warnings that the photo is too small.

Normally I'd ask her for the full-size high resolution copies, but she's filed for bankruptcy and I can't contact her outside the bankruptcy process.

That is a bummer that a bankruptcy could play into a service you've already paid for. If you paid for full rights, I'd be inclined to research that more. You can print 4x6 at a lower resolution (spread the pixels over a great space). You may have some quality degradation, but depending on the photo, it may be nominal. You could also consider scanning them in at 600 dpi and printing that way. Photoshop does resample when you enlarge (a process where it guesses at proximate pixels to fill the space due to enlargement). You may want to tinker around with that to see if you're happy with the results (you could print some test pages at home). Good luck!

I have a bunch of old family photos that are quite small, but I've wanted to use them for my scrapbooking. A good old google search a few years ago took me to this tutorial: http://www.photoshopsupport.com/tutorials/cb/enlarge.html

Doing this basically doubles the size of your photo. And, you run a few filters along the way to help keep things looking nice. It's nowhere near perfect, but for my old, tiny family photos, it's good enough. I even created an action for myself based on this tut. It may not make things as nice as you want, but you might try it and see what you think.

Thanks so much for your suggestions! We are trying to see if she can be required to at least give us the full-sized photos, but I don't know if we'll succeed. Now I feel better knowing that there may be a way to make some of them larger.
