I WISH I had this camera but it's actually a question for a co-worker that has it:
Camera: Digital Rebel XTi
He wants to know how to change the dpi of the photos he takes. The photos are coming up as 72 dpi and he wants them at 300 dpi (as us scrapbookers would agree!).
Any insight? Anything would help! Thanks!!

There's a fairly good discussion about it here: http://www.photography-forums.com/t100748-canon-eos-xti-compression.html
Basically what I've understood from trying to mess with this in the past myself is that it doesn't really matter what the dpi is when it's on the screen, it's the full size of the image that matters (number of pixels) when you want to print it out. Confusing as all heck. :)

You want to go into the menu and play with the format. It's all in the kind of image you set to take. I work with RAW images, but unless you have a RAW editor you wouldn't want to do that. I'll grab my camera and check the settings for ya.

Yeah, the DPI doesn't matter really, as long as it has a large pixel size... 900 pixels at 300 dpi and 900 pixels at 72 DPI, the only difference is when you print at 300 dpi, the 900 pixels is going to be equivalent to 3 inches and at 72 DPI it will be equivalent to 12.5 inches, but a much lower quality of picture

Yup, with Teresa on this one. With my camera they come up at 180 dpi but that number doesn't matter so much as the number of pixels.

You want to go to menu and it's in the first menu, it says quality. Hit set to open the menu and then you can choose, as you scan through, you'll see the pixel size in the top right hand corner change.
Hope that helps!
Yep, dpi is irrelevant really. It's the size of the image that matters. The only time dpi really matters is when you want to print something, which Traci explained quite well.

On my XTi I shoot in the largest jpeg setting & when I download them to the computer & open them in PSE6 they are 54"x36" @ 72dpi, if I uncheck resample image & change to 300dpi they change to 12.96"x8.64". Which is basically the same thing that happens when you take the original image and place it on a 12x12 300dpi canvas. So there isn't a way to change it to 300dpi in the camera, but as long as he shoots on that largest setting his images are fine!

Tony's all show up as 72 also, but they are amazing for printing. Sounds like you got some good advice here!
