View Full Version : DD might have a torn ACL

She was jumping on a giant trampoline at a friend's house yesterday when my husband decided to get on and horse around. He made sure that all the kids were backed away from him(he's a pretty big guy)and proceeding to come crashing down face first on the trampoline. Before he even realized what was happening, he heard a pop from Sierra's knee and she was lying down on the trampoline screaming. We called the doctor's office, explained what happened and they told us it was best to wait until morning to bring her in but in the mean time give her Motrin for the swelling, etc. My poor baby's knee is swollen and she can't put any weight at all on it. She has to be carried everywhere. DH just had an in depth discussion in school on torn ACL's and he's pretty sure that's what it is. I'm really hoping it's not considering she's not quite 3 and I'm afraid it will affect her developmentally wise. We have an appointment at 10:30. I'd really appreciate some P&PT(and so would Sierra)if you girls could spare any.

***update***
Thanks for the kind words, girls. Our pediatrician is almost certain that it is not a torn ACL but went ahead and scheduled an MRI for her tomorrow at 8:30 am. She has to be sleep deprived(half the amount of sleep she normally gets)so we're keeping her up until midnight and will be waking her at 5 am. Fun times.

oh no!! poor kiddo!! I hope she's ok.. I'm always amazed by how quickly kiddos around her age pop back. I swear ce should be in a f ully body cast somedays :D :D .. I think I messed up my knee really badly for the first time around that age-- I was OK.. went on to play sports and dance etc, so hopefully she pulls through just fine :)

Oh gosh!! That sounds incredibly painful! I have problems with my knees dislocating (knee cap popping off and stretching the ligaments) which hurts like he**, and causes lots of swelling too!!! So I feel her pain, poor baby! I hope its just that (stretched) and not torn!!

Oh man I hope it's not the ACL! But like Lauren said she is young and kids really do pop back quick. DH and his best friend both had reconstructive surgery on their ACL's from motorcycle racing accidents. Both of them were in their 20's when they did it and all I can say is the poor thing if it is because that is so painful! I hope all turns out OK with her!

Ow. Ow. Ow. Poor thing, I hope she feels better, and I hope it's not her ACL. My poor knees took a real beating from skating, and I know how she feels. Try to keep some ice on it too, that will help! Keep us posted.

I really hope that's not what it is. I ruptured my ACL skiing when I was 20, and it was no fun at all! My knee still gives me issues. But since there's still pain, I'm betting that's not what it was (at least not a complete tear). Once it ruptures, there's no more pain. You just can't walk or you fall on your face. Hopefully it's just a twist or a sprain and nothing more serious.

Sleep deprived? Yikes! That does not sound like fun. For either of you. I hope the MRI comes back okay :)

So glad to hear he doesn't think it is her ACL! I cringed just reading your post, poor thing!
Silly question though....why does she have to be sleep deprived for an MRI?!?!?
Hope it is nothing too serious!

oh my I was totally cringing when reading the original post. the popping sound  . Glad it's not the ACL (I don't really know what that means). Good luck with the MRI. Hope she heals quickly.

They want her to be asleep for the procedure(they also prescribed us a medication to give her when we get there to help her relax and fall asleep). I'm assuming because she's so young they don't want her freaking out in there.
