[or How Everything That Could Go Wrong On This Trip Has Thus Far]

Yeah, so that trip for BF to run the Country Music Marathon... agh!! :cursing:

Five hour trip that gets started an hour late... BF irritated b/c hasn't eaten (and is hypoglycemic)... then BF's son becomes irritated b/c chose not to eat when BF did down the road... Mickey Dee's for lunch which irritates BF as trying to eat healthy but BF's son (a drama queen like his daddy) began crying and saying he was going to throw up if he didn't eat soon [insert eyeroll here]... stuck in traffic in Nashville and can't figure out where to go for required valet parking at hotel... gave us room with only one bed so had to change rooms... BF's son begins to throw fit when realizes left toy helicopter in other room... BF's son scared of escalators so BF has to hold him on the 4 escalators between door and expo... BF needs to eat someplace with pasta for complex carbs for race but can't find Italian restaurant close enough to walk to... place comes up on his cell GPS does not exist after we walk there... got so fed up with his whining and complaining that left them in the dust and walked to Arby's for dinner at 9 *lol*... BF and son did follow suit and did receive heartfelt apology from BF... fan in bathroom in hotel room doesn't work and promised maintenance man does not come up... BF's son not to bed until 10 pm (11 pm our time).

And that's all yesterday!! :cursing:

So far today, BF got up at 4 am to get over to the finish line to park my car there so we could all ride together back to the hotel... and then calls me at 5:10 am to say he can't figure out how to get there with the marathon road closures so he guesses he's just going to come back to the hotel and leave the car and then walk to the start line down the street. BF's son and I walked five blocks up from the hotel in order to catch a bus downtown... that never came. We spent 50 minutes on the side of the road eating Cheez Its and waiting. We are now currently waiting in the hotel again for BF to finish and get back here. I have no idea whether he actually brought the car back or figured out a way to get over to the field and I have to have the valet ticket in order to get the car back, and I can't afford a $30 taxi cab fare, so BF's son and I are temporarily stranded.

Bright Side: BF's son has been very good this morning and not disobeyed. He's just exhausting, as all 5yo boys are, and if I have to hear, 'LeeeeeeeeeeeeeeAndra?' followed by a question I don't know the answer to one more time, I might literally scream. I'm also really upset that I didn't get to see BF start or finish the marathon. I've been at the finish line to greet and congratulate him at every marathon he's done since we've been together, and now he will have to finish alone.

Thanks for 'listening.' :(

ETA: A two hour steak dinner (complete with 1/2 a brownie sundae) and a country concert featuring Lady Antebellum has revived my spirits. We'll hit the strip tomorrow and bunch a few cheesy Nashville souvenirs and then hit the road. None too soon. :P

LeeAndra, how'd he do in the marathon??

He finished at 4:50:58. I think he was the 3000-something participant to finish.

He's happy with the time, as it's a personal best by abt 10 minutes, but he really hit his breaking point around mile 12, so the last half of the race was very painful for him. Around mile 24, he calculated out that he could get a personal best if he really busted his hump, so he did so, but he is definitely paying for it now and had to have some medical attention at the end of the race. He says he's never been this sore after a marathon.

Thanks for asking!

oh man bless his heart! I hope he feels better and I am so sorry you didn't get to see him start/finish but wow what an accomplishment. I couldn't walk 2.4 miles, much less RUN 24! LOL

A personal best is fantastic! I hope he starts feeling better soon!

I hate those "vacations" where all the little petty logistical problems get in the way and make everyone cranky!!!!!!!! I hope things smoothed out a bit after the race and you were able to have some fun!

I'm always blown away by people who can do these long distance running events. They definitely have my respect! I am sooooo not a runner! I love to walk and can walk for miles, but would fall down on the ground and start kicking and whining like a 3-year-old if you asked me to run it!

Re: LA

'LA' is fine. I would say 95% of my online peeps almost exclusively refer to me as LA online since it is so much easier to type out.

Just don't *call* me LA in person, and we'll be cool. :)

Thanks for all the well wishes, ladies! I will pass them along to BF! He will be so jazzed that a bunch of ladies think he's rad.

Congrats to your BF! My dad did several marathons back in the 80's, so I know how tough it can be on those runners. The worst for my Dad was the year he did the New York Marathon and it rained (cold, too). He needed one of those silver blankets and he didn't stop cramping until well after he got home (a 3 hour drive without traffic). I think that ended up being the last marathon for him. So kudos to your BF for not only surviving but beating his previous best!
