woo hoo, I just got my Costco coupons today. and there is a coupon for the WD Passport I have been eyeing, $30 off from May 15 - June 1. I was thinking about ordering from Western Digital and getting a cool yellow one but I'd prefer just getting one from Costco.

now I just hope I don't max out my current EHD before I can get a new one

If there is a Best Buy near you, they have them too! I bought one a few weeks ago for $120...awesome price! (but they only had black!)

I'll honestly never buy a WD again it messed up in a few months and I lost alot of stuff I hadn't backed up :(

How did I miss that? I want that negative scanner! Only my mom said she just threw away a huge box of negatives :cursing:

Oh and how pitiful am I - I got excited about the $1.50 off water LOL

thanks for the heads up!

LOL I got excited by the water and diet Pepsi.

bummer about the negatives (I threw away a bunch too and regret it now, stupid decluttering)

I have a 500GB WD EHD that I grabbed on sale at Best Buy last year and it's been great. A year later, no problems whatsoever. Then a while back I saw that Costco had the 500GB WD that was a model up for an even better deal. I decided to grab it to use as my Time Machine EHD when I got Leopard for my Mac. It died a week later. We had a power outage, and when the power came back, it was dead. It was plugged into a good quality power bar. The older WD was fine, my old LaCie was fine, but the new WD from Costco wouldn't even power up. So I just took it back and got my money back.

I don't know if it was a WD thing, or a Costco thing where maybe we should be cautious of the batches they buy, or what. I've since bought a 1TB LaCie that I'm very pleased with. I'd like to get something portable eventually, so it'd be nice if these Passports were reliable.

I think they had a 500gb at Best Buy or Staples this week (or maybe it was last week) for ~$130. I can't remember now...brain freeze...I have a WD and I haven't had any problems but I'm going to backup soon because I don't want to jinx myself. I have a portable too and I love it...the only problem is that I don't backup to my EHD regularly...

How does everyone backup the EHD - I have a 500 gig one from Costco and all my kits are on it - I'm worried now - :(

I back mine up onto another EHD. I have a laptop. My WD Passport EHD is my secondary drive, permanently plugged into my computer. I keep all my kits on it & work from it. I also have my older photos & music & audio books on it. I have another EDH that isn't portable that I back the WD up onto. I only use it as back up & leave it turned off, unplugged and disconnected the rest of the time. I also copy my photos, music & books to DVD every couple of months and whenever My Received Files folder reaches 4 GB of zipped digi goodies, I burn it to DVD as well.

I have everything that matters in at least two places. So, like Stacey, I back up to another EHD. When I buy digisupplies, for example, I immediately copy them twice to two different EHDs, then delete them off my computer's HD. My photos are stored on both my computers HD and one of the EHDs. Layouts are on one EHD, and duplicated every couple of days on to the second one. One of my EHDs might fail, but hopefully not both at the same time. *knock on wood!*

I have a total of 4 EHD's. One just holds a back up of photos (it's an older, smaller EHD). My other three hold photos, digital kits, and layouts. I also have all my photos backed up onto my computer as well.

3 of my EHDs are Western Digital and one is a Seagate. 2 of them are also portable.

I use a software called Good Sync. It compares my drives and only copies files that are new over.

OH - good idea using that software! I had 2 EHD also, just in case one failed. And one did - the main one. I did lose some stuff, but all my pictures and the majority of my completed pages were safe. So now I'm in the market for another EHD.
