drop shadows 101

i need to get schooled in drop shadows... do you have a tutorial you learned from or maybe you can share with me your secrets? Im working with CS2.

I used to use bought ones until I tried Misty's tutorial...If I see myself using one a lot I just save it as a style and use that a lot..I swear by Mistys now
 
I have used all kinds of tutorials and actions (that I bought). I'm still learning about drop shadows, but the best tip I got was to make the angle -70 for most elements.
 
I've just been learning a lot about these myself because I've felt drop shadows are one of my big weaknesses. Misty's tuts are great--I even bought her action. And Flergs has a great tut on her blog as well! I've already seen a big difference!
 
Misty's tut has changed the way i do drop shadows. I still use the regular layer style for some things, but for pictures or sometimes ribbons or tags i use Misty's tut. I like that acrylic tut; i'll have to play around with that. I was wondering how to make a drop shadow on acrylic!

I do shadows so many different ways... I can never decide what I like best. Sometimes I like to do my own shadow layer and distort it (I use PSE 5.0) and other times I like to just play with the settings... I am not consistent AT ALL in any of my shadow work.

One thing that surpises me in many LO's these days are how "exagerrated" some of the shadow work has become, especially in the very artistic style LOs... it's sort of hard for me to go there, but I admire how it looks...
 
I just wanted to say this thread inspired me to play with shadow tutorials last night... I finally learned how to do acrylic shadows! On this LO I did the flower shadows "Flergs style", used Misty's tutorial for the photo (was going for a held in more at the bottom, slightly bowed in the middle effect), & Jessica Sprague's acrylic shadow tutorial which is great! :thumbup:

Thanks! lol I have to confess that playing with drop shadows might be my favorite part of digi scrapping... which is funny because that would not even be on my radar if I were a paper scrapper... but I'm not, I'm such a total digi scrapper! ;)
