Something wierd happened yesterday evening...

I was standing at my kitchen table cleaning it off. It's in front of a big window, with no curtains or blinds so i can see and be seen clearly (did have blinds but cats tore them up so i just took them down.) As I was standing there I saw a newer white Durango stop kinda in front of my house (we live on a short county road right on the very outskirts of town; a lot of people use this road as a shortcut or to turn around on when they get lost, lol) So I didnt think much of them. They drove off and then I saw them again infront of my house. Apparently they went and turned around, came back, stopped in front and there was a woman in the front passenget seat TAKING PICTURES of my house. I looked right at her and she kinda leaned back in her seat and looked like a deer caught in headlights. I said outloud, i'm sure she could read my lips "What the hell are they doing?" Then they hurridly drove off. My DH and I just looked at each other like "huh?" If i had been properly dressed (I was wearing pj pants and a sweatshirt, lol) I would have got in my car and chased after them. My first thought was maybe it was the insurance company taking pics, cause we have sinced finished our roof and they need to be updated. But the last time they took pictures they called me and told me to expect someone. Plus, it was a Sunday. and i don't think they would have driven off like "oops, we got caught taking pics!". My house is nothing fancy. It was a repo we got dirt cheap and we have slowly been fixing it up. We cant afford to do a lot at a time so its here and there. Like right now, our hous has half new clay colored siding and half old white siding, lol. and part of a fence put up. It's kinda ghetto, lol. But its getting there. Anyway, I'm kinda freaked out about those people taking pictures. I don't know what to expect now. it was just wierd!

thanks for reading my long post, lol.

Totally weird and I'm paranoid about stuff like that. Def lock your doors, and it wouldn't hurt to maybe just call the police and say you saw a suspicious white van driving around and taking pictures.

Stay safe girl!

Whoa thats majorly creepy! I agree, I hope they never return. I wonder what the hell is up though wow!!

Yeah, for sure lock your doors. And lock up or take somewhere else anything of value, especially guns and jewelry.
Of course, it could be nothing, but you can never be too careful. You might even want to call and report suspicious behavior just so that you will have something on record. And if you see that vehicle near your house again, you can call the police and have them give them a trespassing ticket.

Let me ease your mind, because I have been that person taking pics before, lol. If you have a mortgage, what most likely happened was that your loan is in the process of being sold to another loan company and the bank is doing inventory of their loans. This is called a BPO or Brokers Price Opinion, and it is a cheap drive-by appraisal done by real estate agents for banks. What the agent does is take pictures, note the general condition of your home, any repairs that it may need, and place a resell value on it based on other comparable solds and listings in the area.

My dh did this for years, and I helped until the cost of gas made it too expensive. And since Sunday is a work day for Real Estate Agents, that wouldn't be out of the norm for them to be doing this then. Other reasons for this could be the county doing tax appraisals, your insurance could be doing a check, or if you are refinancing your loan they may have ordered a BPO. I think there isn't any reason for alarm, unless they come back. I hope that helps :)

To add to the PP, I was going to ask if you were refinancing, too... a lot of times banks send out appraisers that just take a peek at the outside, so they don't tell you they are coming. Hope it was just something like that and nothing weird :)

I had this happen at our apartment once. it was late at night though and scared the heck out of me. never seen the van agian (it was a different color lol) but still scared me.

well, thanks for trying to ease our minds, but we don't have a mortgage. We paid cash for our house. It was $12,600, lol. They had dropped the price from $30,000. We had been looking at repos, but kept getting outbid. So when we found this one we snagged it, even though it was not what i had in mind. It's starting to come around. we'll probably finish fixing it up then in a few years sell it and buy my dream house, lol.

I'm still telling myself it was just the insurance company. I may give them a call to check. If it wasn't them, then i'll just believe it was nosy people out taking pictures of houses that suck, lol!

Very weird! Maybe it was the people the house was repo'd from coming to check on it?

THAT was my second though this morning! I'm betting it probably was. They are probably amazed at the difference in it, lol. We've done a lot. The attached garage is no longer a garage. we enclosed it and it will be my new bedroom. We're gonna start working on that later this summer. The roof is all new, and i mentioned that we are in the process of getting new siding. We ripped off the ugly metal screened in porch and we are having some people come over this week to give us estimates on a new wood porch. SO excited. I want a porch swing! then we'll finish fence so that the kids won't get hit by the cars that go WAY too fast down my road, lol. Seriously. the speed limit is 35. they go,like, 65. and THEN, i get to plant some flowers and bushes. It'll look nice. We've done a lot on the inside too. Living room, Kitchen (though its not done, lol) and the horrible bathroom is getting redone any day now. just waiting on some money. It'll look like a totally different house when we're done. And since we own it, when (if) we sell it someday, we'll get all the money muahahahaha! It's like a long, drawn out flip that we occupy while flipping, lol.

It's the papparazi!! or maybe someone nominated you for Extreme home makeover? LOL

Seiously though that does seem strange and I am just the time of person that that would drive me crazy too wondering what they were doing. I'd have probably chased them in my jammies! LOL

Hahhaha - Your house & My old house could be the topic of the blog Houses that should just... Not be seen.

(I understand your pain of the long-drawn out flip, while occupying it. Serious pita'ing time in my life)

Anyway -
Hope your icky feeling goes away!

Think as a scrapbooker... :) How old is your house? Is it possible this could have been someone who grew up in the house driving by to see their old home, or maybe their grandparents old house? That's pretty common. While I tend to be a bit paranoid about these things, 9 times out of 10 it's some perfectly harmless reason. I'm sure the people in my husband's grandma's old house would have thought we were nuts if they saw us taking pictures of the house. Although at least we got out of the car and talked to the neighbours that were outside before we just started snapping pictures.

Years ago my nephew and his friend at school were playing at recess when they saw this man pull up in a car, get out and take some pictures. I was amazed they were savvy enough to do it, but they memorized his licence plate and ran in to the office and told the secretary what happened. The school phoned the police, and the police went after him and pulled him over a short time later. It turned out he had gone to school there as a child, was back visiting and wanted some pictures of his old school. His story checked out, so no harm no foul. The kids did the right thing though, and it's pretty amazing they picked up on it and reacted so fast. For us especially, because my nephew's biological mom lost custody of him because of abuse, and there was a very real danger of her snatching him as she is not the most stable individual.

hahahaha! I'd LOVE it if someone would nominiate us. I've thought about nominating myself for that. I could live with them sending us on vacation and tearing down my house to build us a new one, lol!

My first thought was an appraiser too but I also thought that if you were doing work on it someone could have seen something you did that they liked and wanted to copy it. I tend to take photos of things I like for future ideas. But I also tend to ask if it's ok first. I would definitely be cautious but if you live in a safe area I wouldn't worry too much.

I hear ya living in a flip..we sold our other home and moved into our flip (it was finished though..market is/was so bad we had our house and the flip on the market to live into whichever one didn't sale lol)

Eeek!! Regardless of the reason it is still creepy! Especially these days... maybe you should hand a sign out front that says "no pictures please". he he he.
