Teething tricks?

hey y'all...my brother in law called last night asking me (the more experienced mother of three) for teething tips and i had no suggestions for him. i'm awesome, i know. :thumbup: it's been too long since mine were that little. any "magic tricks" you know for a teething 1 year old?

Ambesol.... drugs are good.

Alternatively, we used to wet the corner of a washcloth and freeze it.. then they have a cold corner to chew on and the rest of the washcloth is dry.
 
Ummmm, well my baby isn't teething yet, but I've heard a few things that other moms said were lifesavers. Orajel being one of them, lol

You can get teething rings that have a gel stuff in them. They stay colder longer compared to the plain water ones.

You can put an ice cube in it and they can chew on it without risking choking. Use a bib though!

Or I've heard of freezing chunks of banana that they can chew on. It feels good on gums but tastes yummy too! Maybe it should be put in that teether thing though... what a mess as it thaws, lol!
 
HYLAND'S TEETHING TABLETS and a small dose of Tylenol or Motrin.

Plus, lots of things to chew on. Rhett likes frozen wet wash cloths.

Those Hyland's tablets were the only thing that really gave either of my boys any relief. I hated the way orajel made my own gums feel, so I hesitated to use it on them. But the hyland's tablets were great.
 
I used to let mine chew on really cold apples, really big ones with the skin on. They were easy for the babies to hold and tasted really good to them too. I just watched them carefully with them. It worked great until they were able to actually bite into the apple and get a chunk out and by then their teething pains had subsided some.
 
Get 1/2 of a washcloth wet and stick it in the freezer, after frozen give it to the teething tot. They can hold the side that isn't frozen and the texture from the frozen side really soothes those hurting toothies! Those teething toys NEVER worked with my boys as they were too hard and too cold!!

We had a teething blanket it has hard corners that we chilled and alternating between tylenol and motrin every three to four hours (depends on the ped. if you do it three or four....we went with four hours between the meds.) The motrin really helped the swelling in the gums.
 
If you're hesitant to give your kids Orajel (some say that it can cause a choking hazard if you use too much because it numbs the mouth), there is a natural one that my sister let me use on my VERY cranky teething girl when she was a year old and I hadn't brought anything with me (and NO stores in that dinky town carried Tylenol or anything for kids...WTH?!). Anyway, it helped her a lot, she stopped being so miserable, lol. I'll have to ask what it was called...I know it started with a C, lol...but it was a natural medicine for pain relief.
