I decided that I was going to take the big plunge and buy a photo printer. With more than 14,000 pics of my 11 month old - I wanted to be able to print some of them at home, and I had also been dying to print my hybrid pages at home. I'm very impatient and don't want to go out to have them printed!
I went to Staples, fearful that I would only find photo printers in for big $$$$. I was surprised when I found them for anywhere from $50 - $250. I talked to the Staples guy (who was very knowledgeable and informative), and finally decided on the HP Photosmart D7460 Photo Printer. Here's a link: http://www.staples.com/office/supplies/p1_All-Photo-Printers_186856_Business_Supplies_10051_SEARCH.
At the time, I got a $65 rebate with it. Right now they have $30 off instantly, which makes it $119. The cartridges, which are separate for each color, are reasonably priced at $9.99 each.
As soon as I got home, I ripped open the box and put it to the test. I could not believe the amazing quality prints that this printer produces! They are really amazing.
Not only are the prints awesome, but so far I've printed: 4 8x10" prints, 40 4x6" prints, and have printed enough pages for these hybrid albums: three bracket albums, three accordion albums, and four mini tag albums. All of that, and the "low ink" light hasn't even come on yet! Woo hoo! I'm going to continue to keep count of the prints that I do and see just how long these cartridges last.
I bought HP Everyday Photo Paper in soft gloss and glossy, and both produced GORGEOUS prints. Although I prefer the soft gloss by far, both soft gloss and glossy were "dry" to the touch as soon as they came out of the printer. Within 15 minutes, they were bone dry and ready to cut and adhese to the chipboard. For 4x6" prints, I bought the 4x6" borderless paper with tabs - and couldn't be happier with the results.
So anyway, if you are looking for a great photo printer that won't break the bank - this is a great choice! Let me know if you have any questions, and I'll do my best to answer them.
