Qotd: One little word... (12/19)

One Little Word

Did you have a OLW this year? What was it? Did you feel your word helped you through the year?

Do you have a OLW for 2018 already? What's your word? Why did pick it?

My OLW this year was confidence. I scrapped a layout about it in the beginning of the year. And it really helped me through the year. So I want to pick a new for next year, but haven't find a word that 'speaks' to me yet. So I'd love to hear all about your word.

clearskies 12-19-2017 03:26 AM

My OLW for 2017 was WHOLE. And while I felt very disconnected from it for most of the year, when I looked back at what I wrote in January, I actually accomplished many of the things I set out to do...

For 2018 my word is CONNECT. We've been here just over a year now and we're in serious need of a tribe...

karlimarie 12-19-2017 09:43 AM

I love having a theme word for the year - this year I've also added five ways of being (got the idea from Molly Mahar from Stratejoy)

2014 - Complete
2015 - Motivate
2016 - Strength
2017 - Growth

This year I've chosen CULTIVATE and my ways of being are CONNECTED, INTENTIONAL, COURAGEOUS, PERSISTENT, and SERENE

Sometimes I have to do a little work to find my word, other years it's just screaming at me from all angles. If I'm having trouble, I usually brainstorm and make word lists and look up definitions on Google. But, once my word crosses my path I just know it, something deeply resonates and the deal is done!

I've done a couple different projects with my word of the year. Sometimes I make digital scrap pages, sometimes found art collages, sometimes I just print it and frame it for the wall. Some years I do ongoing projects surrounding my word, other years it just subtly and gently guides me. I almost always create a Pinterest board full of images that I want my year to look like.

I have done a OLW in the last few years, but I'm jumping in for 2018! I'm thinking my word is going to be "Poised." Many times, I second guess myself or feel like I'm not good enough, but I'm trying to be more self assured and confident in the coming year, so poised seems quite fitting. Plus, I like that it has such positive connotations (ie. poised for greatness). :)

LeeAndra 12-19-2017 10:42 PM

My 2018 OLW is #extra (yes, with the hashtag). I've spent the last several years just getting by and not really living or enjoying things or doing things for myself.

Next year is going to be all about me for the first time in my adult life. I'm going to take care of myself the way I should have been all along + indulge in some fun treats & splurges on a regular basis. I can't wait!

britaneejean 12-20-2017 12:14 AM

2017 was WHOLE and it was ok. I slacked off a lot in some areas but not in others.

2018 will be CULTIVATE...I think. Or UNITE. Both are great & I can feel different pathways for either. We'll see!

Kjersti 12-20-2017 12:19 AM

My word for 2018 is KNOWLEDGE. I've already signed up for classes starting in April.

KristinCB 12-20-2017 01:31 AM

my word is harmony.

every other year i try and do these big grand words like brave.. courage etc etc and those things just aren't me! this year i'm wanting to do a little bit of the opposite and try and bring a bit of peace/calm back into my life :)

Saar 12-22-2017 02:50 PM

Thank you all for sharing your words.
Still haven't found mine. I hope I find one that speaks to me within a few days.

joelsgirl 12-22-2017 07:02 PM

I don't usually do one, but in 2018, my word is Satisfied. There is something inside me that is always wanting: food, stuff to buy, a new life...

So I've decided that in 2018 I'm going to pursue satisfaction by being content with what I have. I've got some books in my que to read, and I'm going to sit down after my in laws leave next week and work out what it would look like and what it will take to be satisfied.

Sheana 12-22-2017 07:16 PM

My OLW for 2018 is intentional. I want to be more intentional with my time, energy, efforts, money, etc. So I think it is very fitting for where I am in my life and where I want to be.

anelia 12-23-2017 01:38 AM

I guess my 2017 word was "change"...with all the things that's happened...like my trying to get in better shape, my unexpected pregnancy and the arrival of my baby boy. But I'm feeling kind of down right now so my word for 2018 will be "stregth' - I want to get back in shape and keep my sanity.

kristalund 12-23-2017 09:51 AM

This is a scrap project I have never done. I just doesn't speak to me. Maybe one year.

ChristineF 01-06-2018 04:42 AM

I recently realised that I wanted to do a OLW for 2018. 2017 was such a shitty year and I feel like I'm still lost from when I became a mother for the first time almost 6 years ago. I have tried to find myself again, but last year just didn't work for me. So 2018 is going to be the year that I find myself again. I will find peace, harmony and love. But I haven't found MY word yet.

Some thoughts on it so far though are:
THRIVE
HARMONY
MINDFULL
LOVE
CHANGE

This could be me. I'm not a mother, but I felt very lost last year as well. Everything went wrong. I hope that 2018 will be a better year for both of us. I hope you find yourself again.

Love your choices. No matter what word you pick, I'm sure it'll be a good one.

A few days ago, I found my word. My word is HOME.
I didn't feel at home anywhere last year, not even in my own house. There was no place where I felt at ease. So I'm doing my best to change that this year.

Thank you. I’m sorry you had a hard year too. HOME is a good word, glad you found one for you. I might steal it for next year [emoji6]
This year though I have to focus on me, then when I’m me again, I can focus on home.

And we have a good “home” here at SSD [emoji170]

How about "ME" as your OLW?
I think it fits perfect for what your goal is this year.

It is! SSD is a perfect home!

SmallMoments 01-06-2018 10:12 AM

My OLW last year was restore and it lasted about two weeks.
This year I chose "be." Each month I'll have a different "add-on." For January it's "Be Well." And I'm focusing on getting my health and wellness goals back on track.

hollyxann 01-06-2018 10:53 AM

Originally I thought my word would be "Organize". Things have been very chaotic around here lately. Trying to things, taking on new projects, my hubs buying the machine shop he's worked at for the last 16yrs, plus every day chaos and parenting. So now I think my word is going to be "Balance". This year is going to be about finding the right balance between parenting, keeping my day to day duties in order, my own side projects (crafitng, photography, etc), helping hubs at the shop, and having me time.

tanyiadeskins 01-06-2018 11:33 AM

I have been doing OLW since I learned about it here about 5 years ago. Last year was "Balance" and I am happy with the progress I made there. This year I am going with "Enough" I AM enough. I HAVE enough. I DO enough. The things I creat are GOOD enough. I need to learn to stop beating myself up. I am good enough. The only one in my life that thinks I am not is me.

Saar 01-06-2018 11:49 AM

Love your words ladies! I think they're all good words. I hope they bring you what you're looking for.

This is brilliant, Kristin! I have had a whole list of words, but none have jumped out to me. I had a word that I thought would be it, but still was undecided.
I'm thinking of the word "action" for this year. I'm so good at laying out plans, but then don't follow through. So, I'm going to copy Kristin and add-on a word (or words) each month for things I want to take action on!
So, January will be Nutritional action. February will probably be relational action (LOL! That could be fun :D ) and so forth.

YAY!! Glad I could help! Relational Action... ooo la la!!!

My words over the years
2010 - Change
2011 - Simplify
2012 - Achieve
2013 - Intention
2014 - Balance
2015 - Nurture
2016 - Adventure
2017 - Shine
2018 - Today

I can hardly believe this is my 9th year doing this. I sure didn't stick with New Year's resolutions that long!

Saar 01-07-2018 03:16 AM

9 years. That's a big accomplishment.
Loved all your words.

littlekiwi 01-07-2018 03:28 AM

I wish I could choose a word that works with my life as it stands

So far my goals for 2018 are to get and stay healthy, eat better and exercise more (had a health scare at the end of 2017) and find a job (and potentially move out of home for good)

Sherri Tierney 01-07-2018 05:10 PM

Jennifer, what about something like 'progress'? That encompasses many aspects of life. :)

I always have trouble deciding on a word but this year I feel like God gave it to me.

ChristineF 01-13-2018 02:41 PM

I finally settled on my OLW.

Thrive.

I will thrive in my life, the real me will flourish and my friends and family will thrive in my company and I in theirs.

Saar 01-13-2018 02:47 PM

That's a perfect word Christine. I'm happy to read you found your word.

That is a great word. Don't just survive. Thrive

My OLW this year is purpose. As I get older it becomes more important to me to make sure the things I do, both big and small, are meaningful and serve a purpose. Plus I am hoping it will keep me from squirreling so much. I don't want to keep wasting time on things that don't matter. ;)
