What makes you happy?

So I have been doing this 100 days of happy, and as much as I love my family I am trying to find other things that make me happy as well. I have noticed a lot of little things in life that make me smile.

The other morning I went to the grocery store after I dropped the kids off at school and every single person I saw smiled or said hello and made eye contact, it was a moment I may not have noticed if I weren't looking!

I have noticed the difference in clouds and realize that I like the super fluffy ones that look like cotton candy.

I love this project... what makes you happy lately?

Seeing the delight and love on my 7 yr olds face the moment she sees me, when I pick her up from school.

Watching my girls pour over their photo albums for days on end, actually reading the journalling I wrote for them.

friendly people, a clean house (heck, i'll take a clean room even), dishes done & in the dishwasher (or put away), vacuum lines (<-- make sense at all?), happy kids, gallery comments, a new episode of a favorite show, a nap, a new book...

...i could go on & on!

Everyday, little moments make me happy. Watching our kitty sleep on a chair, folding towels and yes, I totally get the vacuum lines. A clean, organized space makes me happy and gives me a lot of energy, a silly joke, a cool breeze, sipping warm tea with my feet up.

Is this from a book? Or just one of those awesome ideas that are floating out there? It sounds really cool!

Today I am super happy about how clean and pleasant things are in my house. I had to do a "mad rush" cleaning job here last night before my mom came over and now I'm just walking around today smiling when I'm not even really looking at things, you know what I mean? Man, having company is always the best motivator to get. stuff. done. LOL! And now we all get to appreciate the tranquility--for today at least. ;)

We went on a road trip & saw old friends (and met Melissa Lewis finally!) and all that happy is still spilling over in my heart.

And I love being home and having my parents giddy about seeing my kids and the way the baby couldn't contain her excitement when she saw my dad.

I think being gone most of the time (living outside the US) makes me really appreciate all the little things we do & the people we love.

My 8 year old, who is on the spectrum and rarely talks to people he doesn't know well, had a great conversation this morning with a nurse he'd never met before.

I've read a few books in a row that I liked a lot

My 10 year old just bought himself something big for the first time (a Kindle Fire), so his pride and excitement.

DH took a day off work yesterday to spend with me and DD, which he rarely gets to do

Getting time to work on a layout, especially one with a favorite photo or story or one that comes together quickly (been spending too much time lately on PL, which always goes slowly for me)

No it's from a website that's floating around on FB.
Lauren Grier is making a kit inspired by the idea...

My son bought me a ukulele for Christmas and learning to play it makes me happy. But ukuleles are happy instruments anyway. :)

MamaBee 04-03-2014 06:25 PM

what makes me happy... time to myself... haha. How bad does that sound?

It does make me happy when everyone in the house is under the same roof and "focused" on each other. Having a homecooked meal on the table and ready... and no one complaining about what is being served... finding fun books and games at second hand stores... hubby surprising me with coffee on his way home from work (such a rare thing)...

NellahBean 04-03-2014 06:44 PM

Jenn! Totally get the clean space thing. I love it when my house is spotless, which unfortunately, is not often. There is nothing like opening the front door of your home, and walking into a beautiful, clean, neat space! And I LOVE when my bed is made. It makes me happy. Totally random, right!

I also LOVE to watch my babies sleep. What is it about sleeping kiddos that makes them look so sweet??

LeeAndra 04-03-2014 07:10 PM

Having the Pharrell song come on the radio while I'm driving makes me happy. :)

My DD is 4 1/2 and really turning into this funny amazing personable kid whom I am thoroughly enjoying watching grow up.

Finding out that I passed the glucose test & my BP is still normal made me happy... though remembering I will have to go into labor soon(ish) and then not sleep for a few months does NOT. :p

Working across from the hubs while he's playing his PC games. He gives running commentary which cracks me up.

Playing with our pup. I'd forgotten the joy of hanging out with a creature who just loves you and is happy to see you.

Chatting with friends i haven't seen in a long while. Like, talking from 5pm until 11pm in a restaurant. Awesome!

I agree about the clean house thing - I just finished my weekly vacuuming, bathroom cleaning, etc this morning... and I feel better.

Other little things that make me happy - patting the cats or when they smooch against my legs, the first sight of my kids when I pick them up from school (especially my younger one - he at least smiles, the older one would rather run off and play with his friends!), and I was thinking about this just a while ago when I was there - going to the library and borrowing books for me and my kids to read. The library just oozes calm and you're surrounded by thousands of all these wonderful books.

Finishing my last tax return of the season makes me immensely happy. Not there yet but not too far off yet... watching the skittish cat lay on her back snoozing in the middle of the living room... wearing a dress after months of wearing jeans...

These are all so wonderful! Thanks for sharing ladies!

My oldest is getting ready to go to college and she may live there so for me family time is more precious and our silly moments mean a lot.

Living overseas will definitely make you realize (for a time) to be happy about the little things. Flushing toilets!! Toilet paper in public toilets! Not paying for toilets. Boy I have potty on my brain or what?!! LOL

Drivers who (in general) stay in a lane, not make a whole new one so the 3 lane road becomes a 6 lane road.

Smell of fresh rain.

Jumping in puddles with my kids (or even by myself!)

Dogs (well behaved) particularly their eyes!

I'm sure there are many more! I keep thinking of making a project of photographing the things I am thankful/happy for. But then I worry that it will make more work for me and so I will be unhappy then!!

Oh this is wonderful! I'm in San Francisco right now with my son on our spring break trip and one of the things that has really made me happy on this trip is meeting all these interesting people here.

Today we got on the elevator with a man who had just arrived with a big tour group from South America. He was the tour guide and instead of being beat from travelling overseas he was just so STOKED to be here. His joy was contagious!

And I've had some Awesome conversations with folks while we've been hanging off the side of a cable car! And the guy at the bus stop in the rain while we were getting soaked! When you look at life as an adventure rather than a burden there is a ton of joy!

^^^ this. :p

Also, hearing DH's voice (he's stationed overseas right now), the smell of Yankee's Harvest candle and quiet nights when the kiddos are in bed and I can craft.

Oh, and driving around our new town and seeing glimpses of the ocean. So grateful to be here (even if it means our family is not together).
