It would be awesome if we could also have a quarterly book (or bi-monthly) choice that we read with our kids? something maybe that would be good for kids in the 6-10 range? if that would be an appropriate age group.

Thinking something along the lines of reading percy jackson with our kids etc..

That's a great idea. We are trying to do something like that with my IRL book club over the summer.

What did you have in mind for book discussion? I'm always happy to discuss any book and my kids will read most anything with me, but I don't think they would jump on the forums to discuss.

It would also be nice to have a list of books our kids have loved. I have picked up so many things I want to read from Nikki's weekly threads. Maybe we could do something like that for kids lit. too?

Yea maybe even that is a better idea? It would be nice to have a place to discuss books our kids liked and recommendations so maybe even a sticky of some sort here in this forum. A thread for elementary aged kids and then one for pre-teens/teens?

I'll start a stickied thread for a couple of age groups here in the sweet reads forum.

I'm happy to do a quarterly kid's book selection too though.

I'd be interested in this, too... I'm at a lost of what to read with Jake. He usually is more interested in non-fiction, so finding something that sparks his interest in fiction can be a bit of a challenge. Right now it's all about Germino Stilton and some monthly mystery series he got from his Godfather for his birthday. ;)

I love all the threads that Misty has started [Thank You]!! I'd also love to see an "early reader/beginner chapter book" thread [please], for those that have started to read and are progressing, but aren't quite ready for heavy duty [little to no illustrations] chapter books just yet. usually these are aimed at 1st - 3rd grades and I found that when Henry was at this phase it was incredibly difficult to find books that were interesting, engaging and fun. we did eventually discover some greats [Geronimo Stilton!] but as my Kindergartener is now nearly there himself, I would love to find some new [to us] favorites.

I ditto everything that Loni said!!! I need some things for Ezra who isn't a huge fan of reading and can't sit and read a long chapter book yet. I love all the threads started! Going to help me sooooooo much! Thank you thank you!

Just this afternoon, I took my daughter (7) to the library so she could talk the the children's librarian about beginning chapter books. She came home with Thea Stilton. :)

I'll start the thread.

These are fantastic!! Thank you Misty!! I know Blake's teacher gave me a list of chapter books that might interest blake but none of the books you all have listed in the 1-3 grades are on her list! So we'll have new books to discover! Yay!
