Template Help Needed!!

Yikes.. I am going nuts! I have to open each template to view it, because for some reason I don't get a thumbnail version in Explorer... I use PE8 and have Windows Vista. I even tried the PE Organizer and it doesn't help.

Any ideas on what I can do?

TIA,
Alison

Explorer will not display a thumbnail of a psd file. I've tried everything I can find, and nothing works.

It will display the thumbnail of a tiff file though. I converted all my templates to tiffs. Another tiff benefit is that the file size is much smaller.

Thanks. Do you lose the layers, when you do that?

crystalbella77 01-22-2010 04:08 PM

the tif will save the layers. :) It takes up less space than the psd as well. :) It is frustrating that you can't see the thumbs with a psd. :(

yeah, I either change it to a TIFF or make a tiny thumbnail JPEG to go along with the PSD.

I think the newer versions of PSE comes with bridge right? if so, you can see the preview for .pdf format using adobe bridge. Under file, choose browse in bridge.

Before I conerted to tiff I just looked at them through photoshop. I would go to open, and then browse my folders of templates.

I hate it when templates don't come with previews, even though I have ACDSee and can view them that way! I open mine up,, flatten it and create a jpg preview, that way I can see what it is.

I think there may be a hack to do it but it involves editing the registry which is probably more complicated than most people want to attempt. If it's just the templates that are the problem then it would probably just be as easy to save them as tiff files instead.

Or you know, you could all get Macs and have the Photoshop thumbnails show up automatically. :p :D

Oh Lynette, you are singin' my song... I would love a MAC!! Man-o-my-dreams isn't so keen on the idea though. I don't feel real comfortable messing with the registry... but thanks for the help.

I think I am going to save them as Tiffs, if I can just figure out how

I use FastStone image viewer. It's free and shows psd files.

oohlala 01-22-2010 07:36 PM

Is FastStone its own viewer or does it enable Explorer to view them? This is exciting!!

sarahbhb 01-22-2010 08:20 PM

It's a stand alone program...I don't use PS or PSE for scrapping so I use it for quick cropping and resizing for posting photos on my blog also.
