Templates and its Elements
 

I have a question on the template files. The download includes ready to go templates with all the elements included. There is also a folder with a file for each single element used in the template. What is the purpose of the single elements files? How do you use the single elements?

Are you talking about the PNG files? If your program uses PSD, Tiff or page you really have no need for the PNG folder these are for users who's programs only work with PNG

Ella is right. I use photoshop, so I delete all files except the TIF ones.

Yes these are PNG files. Good to know! I don't them since I use PSDs.

How are TIFs files different from PSD?

TIF files work the same as PSD files in photoshop, but they're a smaller file size, so take up less space on your hard drive.

E.g. a PSD template might be 14.5MB, while the same TIF template is only 5.8MB.

TIFF files are compressed files that support layers and preview. They can be read by a number of software programs whereas PSD files can be opened only in Photoshop (because that's the photoshop file extension).
As a whole, there's no difference between the two formats when you open them in Photoshop -- but because TIFF uses compression, it takes a little longer for them to save when you use "save/save as" commands.

Also, I recently switched to TIF files over PSDs and I love that I can see a preview of a TIF in my folder and I can't with PSDs

I am running out of space on my EHD so thinking I should switch to TIFF files. Plus, it would be great to see the preview. Right now I have a jpg of my layout along with the PSD file so a lot of space being used that doesn't need to.

I always save just the TIFFs because it drives me bonkers that I can't see a preview of a PSD file.

I'm currently changing all my psd files to tif, to save storage space. It's one hell of a job though, wish I would've done so to start with :)

If you use photoshop, you can use batch processing to do it quickly. I believe you can also do this in elements, but it's a different process.

Ok, I may be doing something wrong? I changed a few PSD files over to TIFF to see how much difference and my TIFF files are actually larger than my PSD files. :blink: Any idea why this is the case?

Your settings are probably off. Make sure you have LZW and ZIP selected.

I'm going to go and try that...I know that isn't selected so that is probably it! Thanks Alyna!

I just tried it and it flattened my layout instead of keeping the layers. :glare: Any other ideas?

haha :D...just kidding...I had opened an already flatten page when I thought it was layered! :o
