Aww...thanks ♥ I'm glad I have a kiddo who is willing to play along with all my crazy ideas. :)

I pretty much just decided to do a continent a week and then just looked up some ideas for countries within them. I kinda pictured that we would do a little more than we are, but at his age the things we're doing are shaping up to be right on point for his attention span. He's really into reading right now and his librarian at his school helped me find some books from the school library that are on his level about countries. So he is reading about things and then we are doing projects about them.

So far, his favorite thing was the Mexican wrestlers. So far mine was eating the poutine! LOL

Tracyfish 06-16-2011 05:33 PM

Here is what I had for this week...still working on compiling all the others...

Link to colorable flags
http://www.coloringcastle.com/flag_coloring_pages.html

June 13th – North America
Canada
-foods: Poutine
-Canadian geese printables
http://www.kidzone.ws/animals/birds/...anadagoose.htm
-Mounties http://www.dltk-kids.com/canada/mpapermountie.htm
Canadian Fast Fact: Canada is the second largest country in the world (by area). The first is Russia.

Mexico
-foods: tacos, guacamole
-make Mexican wrestlers…Lucha Libre
-crafts: maracas
-plant avocado pits (science)
-make Mayan temple with legos http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/k...s/find/mexico/

Also I found this homeschooling site that gives lesson plans associated with books about different countries. Here is a link to the one I think I'm going to use for Poland, but they have a ton of others.

I follow a homeschooling blog that the lady is doing this and she actually made up a "curriculum" and sells it for really really cheap!!!!

http://confessionsofahomeschooler.bl...geography.html

Expedition Earth is a hands on world geography curriculum that covers 31 countries across the world. It is designed primarily for K-3 students. Students will learn the continents, oceans, people, cultures, animals, climates, try new foods, crafts and more, all through hands-on activities!
I love reading what she does with it and her kids!!!!

jessica31876 06-16-2011 07:41 PM

I love seeing all Tracy does with her son too!! I wish I had thought of half of it when my kids were little. I think my favorite thing Ive seen her post is about Dr. Seuss's bday or maybe having The Grinch visit for christmas. Well mostly because I love the Grinch/Dr. Seuss LOL.

Her passport/visiting the countries though is really cool. I mean my daughter came home from AP Geography in high school and told me over half the class did not know where some countries were like England or India...and that was advanced placement. So she is defenitely giving him a jumpstart!

I totally have a grown up girl crush on Tracy.

Victoria Feemster 06-16-2011 08:59 PM

Tracyfish 06-16-2011 09:52 PM

Y'all are making me blush :o

Elizabeth, thanks for the link to that blog. I'm going to stalk her now for the rest of our summer activities :)

If anyone needs any information about countries, I'd be happy to help. My family has exchange students in 3 countries, and my mom works for a foreign exchange program, so I have friends in over 20 countries. I'd be happy to get any info I can for you guys! I know that there are a lot of girls in the scrap community from around the world, but I can do what I can ;)

I also have an international cookbook I made last year with recipes from all of our students. Here's the link:

http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...4&l=c181ac102a It also has some fun facts about the kids, their home countries, and more.

My son just did a fun 2 week preschool camp at his preschool - they called it Worlds of Wonder. They went to 3 different countries - Australia, South Africa & Mexico. He had an absolute BLAST!!! We have quite a craft pile from his adventures: binoculars, boomarang, aborginal art, a lion mask, rain shaker thingie, tissue paper flower...and a few other things. Today they broke a pinata and ate some yummy mexican food. At each country they had a tour guide - Eloise the Elephant, Arnie the Armadillo and Katie the Kangaroo. I really wish they had the camp go for more then 2 weeks but I understand that they need a break too! lol Maybe I'll keep it up...we'll see ;)

Oh yes, I love watching Tracy's 365 and other layouts and see all of the fun she has with her son too.

If anyone is interested, my sister posted a list of Around the World craft activities that are going to be at Michaels this summer on her blog.

ETA: From that list, when you follow the links to Michaels they also have info for different crafts you can do at home and other facts about the country for the week. So maybe now I will be participating too from home with my niece and nephew. So excited.
