Eggnog or pass?
 

Are you a fan of eggnog? If so, store bought, homemade or both?

If you make it, what is your recipe?

If eggnog is not your thing... do you have a festive Holiday drink?

I like eggnog in very small doses. I am the only one in the house that will drink it, so I don't tend to buy it or make it.

My Mom always made Wassal. I do miss her version of that drink.

Hot chocolate is always a family favorite with lots of marshmallows.

I just found a recipe for Blueberry- Ginger Fizz. That sounds kinda light and refreshing.

Can you tell I am looking for new ideas? Lol...

Too sweet for me, which is really funny for me to say because my drink of choice right now is Pink Whitney with Sprite Zero lol So I'll pass!

I don't think I ever even tried eggnog until a few years ago. I guess it wasn't a thing our family was into. When we got together at my grandma's when I was younger, my mom and aunt always made grasshoppers. I don't necessarily love those either but they were fun when I was a younger. Eggnog is ok and I'll drink a little but I really only buy the non alcoholic version for my boys. My youngest especially likes it.
I do like hot chocolate though. I bet some irish cream would be tasty in that to booze it up a bit!

I've always been put off at the "egg" in the title, lol. Just like I can't eat carrot cake because why would you put carrots in a cake??

I love eggnog. Always been a fave. I just buy it from the store. My mom did try to make it once when I was growing up. I don't remember it much though, so I don't know if it was good or not. rofl

I love egg nog - but not the price of it in the last few years! lol. we are going to try making egg nog this year.

Growing up, my family is big on Brandy Slush (it's a midwest thing)... otherwise we don't have any beverages just for the holidays

I always thought eggnog was an American thing. It's not a thing here in New Zealand, probably because our Christmas is in the middle of summer, so we're more about lighter drinks. I had to google what's in an eggnog recipe.

I don't drink store-bought eggnog but I do like Advocaat which is a traditional Dutch eggnog recipe. I make my own by creaming egg yolks with sugar until it becomes very pale, I add a bit of vanilla and then splash in some brandy. It's thick and delicious. Cheers!

Eggnog isn't really a thing in the Netherlands either. I never had tried it, so I wouldn't know how it tastes lol

I love eggnog! My uncle used to make homemade eggnog years ago, but since then, it's only been store-bought for me.

I LOVE non-alcoholic eggnog, which is weird b/c I'm not a fan of milk. I can only drink a small amount at a time anymore b/c my stomach can't tolerate the richness.

When I was a teen I regularly made homemade eggnog from a recipe in my Betty Crocker girls and boys cookbook ... the recipe called for raw eggs ... I'm cringing just typing that. :)

I honestly didn't know what it was and had to search on Google lol! We don't have this here's but I would be curious to taste!:p
I guess holiday drink would be more hot chocolate, mulled wine and champagne.:)

You can pass the eggnog my way! We love it and will drink as much as I buy - which given what it costs recently is not much o.O I bought a single half gallon jug this year which is taking up space in my refrigerator waiting to be cracked open. Everyone will get one small cup. I don't think I remember anyone in the family down the years making it, we've always just bought the store version since no one is adventurous enough to eat/drink uncooked eggs LOL

We like all of the unusual foods that most people don't like at our house - black licorice, blue cheese, fruitcake, etc. There will be someone who is not a fan of particular things, but there will be multiple people who do like it. Fruitcake is a big winner around here. We will eat all of the fruitcake!

My other favorite holiday drink is spiced cider. We just do the non-alcoholic version here. Apple juice in a big pot on the back of the stove with whole spices (cinnamon stick, cloves, allspice are usually what I have hanging out in the cabinet) thrown in simmering smells and tastes wonderful. I made a more traditional wassail drink with apple and orange juice with spices one year when the kids were younger and they all loved that. It had lots of sugar in it too, so I'm sure that played a part. LOL It would have been fine without the sugar and the kids still would have loved it.

I've bought two half-gallons. Didn't pay attention to the cost with the first one, but my eyes bugged out when I saw the price of the second one ... $7.29. I bought it anyway... :eek: :blink:

Well I am super curious about the taste since we don?t have this in Sweden. At least not as a Christmas tradition :) We drink mulled wine which we call gl?gg and that is really a big deal in my country.

Eggnog seems to be a mixed bag. I hadn't given it much thought that it wasn't an international product.

I think the taste is very distinct. It is the cinnamon, nutmeg and clove that make up the flavor plus the sugar. The consistency is not like any other milk. It is way thicker than most. I'm not sure how to describe the consistency. I just read that some folks call it ice cream that isn't churned or frozen yet.

It is just sweet, thick, rich and creamy. We tend to not add booze, but lots of people add whiskey, brandy or cognac.

I'm still hunting down a new holiday drink. I have brought some ingredients to make a Holiday punch. We shall see how it turns out.

Eggnog is nasty. I do like like cream/alcohol drinks. I just think of it curdling in my stomach. I do love mulled wine though. Yum. But it's an outdoor-only drink, like walking the Christmas markets.

Half of us like eggnog, but we have never made it from scratch!

Our go to Christmas drinks are eggnog, hot chocolate, and Grinch Juice.

this year we are doing Grinch Juice on Christmas and having a Hot Chocolate Bar throughout the day!

I have to ask... what is Grinch Juice?
