Organization

I am contemplating going through all my EHDs and organizing my Digital Layouts by Year. Right now they are spread out on several EHDs. They are organized by year in SmugMug though and it would be very easy to download the entire year IF I ever completed a full year to print a photo album- lol. Do I spend the time doing this or spend the time scrapping?

It depends on what you want to do with your pages down the road.

Is it important to you to have them in chronological order? Is that the only way that you will (eventually) have them printed -- in a bound chronological book?

I label all my layouts "YY-MM-DD-Title", so when I go to print they're automatically in chronological order. Speeds things up heaps when I'm arranging them in a photobook.

I do same as Jacinda name the images yy-mm-dd

I also label mine YY-MM-DD and place them in folders for that year.

I do the same as Jacinda, YY-MM-DD and then name of whom the page is about. After that I add the pages or duplicate them into the correct folders.

I used to print individual 12x12 pages but housing them in 3 ring binders takes up too much space so I decided to print photo books. I am not a chronological scrapper so who knows when I will complete a year (and year! lol)

In SmugMug I do store them by Year and name them MONTHYR_Title. It will be very easy to download that Gallery for printing. I might change up my titling to make it even easier to what you all suggested: YR_MO_Title

Oh, and I spent my time scrapping and completed 4 pages!
Thank you!!

I think it would be nice to have them all together so you wouldn't have to struggle when it comes time to printing. You can see what's there, what is available, etc.

I organize mine by name of child or children, the month with the year and a few word description. (example: children_april2018_Birthday01) So that way when I'm ready to print, I can put them in a file by year just by grabbing from the already "organized" files. It's really quick. It's simple. And the kids LOVE going through their folder of layouts in one sitting instead of opening folders here, there, everywhere.

So yes. Do it! You'll be thankful later on!

I name mine similar to Jacinda, but YY-MM_kit_template because a lot of times I'm doing a single (or few) photo LO and will want to go back to scrap more of the photos later, so I want to know what kit/template I used so I keep them similar.
I have mine in with the photos I scrapped, but am working on adding a "print" set of folders to add the jpegs to when I'm ready to print.

I organize my folders by year- but I don't scrap chronologically. I just make a new folder every month for my fullsize/printable layouts. When I print- I just go through the folders until I'm caught up (As if that'll ever happen!!) I just printed the last of the layouts I CREATED in 2016- but then I add the printed layout to the correct year's binder (12x12 3 ring binders.)

I recently took the time to slowly rename mine all YYMMDD-TITLE and it's INCREDIBLY helpful. Not just for organization, but for referring back and seeing what I have scrapped and when I have a lot of layouts. I worked back through a year's layouts at a time and only worried about renaming a copy of the full JPG file for anything prior to this year, but renamed everything scrapped in 2018. It didn't take me nearly long as expected, I worked on it for 10-15 minute chunks and finished in less than two weeks, with one last big session because I was so close to done

I organize my layouts by year, but than in each year folder, I break them down more by month or trip also if we took a trip that year. This helps with scrapping too, because sometimes I'll only scrap 1 layout of a multi photo event (Christmas, trips, zoo, birthday, etc). I can look back in the layout folder for that year and month to see what photos I already scrapped of the event, so I don't "rescrap" the same ones! This is also helpful when I ever get a chance to print albums. I can look to see if I have 20 layouts finished of 1 month during a certain year.

I personally would go bonkers if mine weren't together by month/year! LOL

I have folders for each year. Within each year, I have months. I have to save them this way! My pictures are organized the same way!
