My biggest CD project ever

I haven't shown a CD project here for ages. Today I have something special, so I have to show off a bit. Even if it's, in fact, a DVD project.

La Piovra (Octopus in English) is an 80s Italian TV series about mafia. It was a huge hit in Europe, and Eastern Europe especially. I wasn't allowed to watch the first two seasons because I was too young, but I saw seasons 3 to 5 at secondary school. About a half year ago I re-discovered it and fell in love again. I don't like violence, but this is so well done in all aspects (script, acting, production) that I make an exception.

I was familiar with the (superb) Czech dubbing, but decided to get it in original with English subtitles. Which only exists in Australia (also in the US, but they cut the episodes to 45 minutes, and I'm no fan of such editing). Australia is region 4, Europe is region 2. I usually watch DVDs on my laptop, and you can only switch regions five times, and as much as I love this series I'd like to watch something else one day as well. So I learned how to convert DVDs to a region-less version and... I thought I might do covers for them.

This is the result.

They're great - I love the blood spatter type effect. You've got the very 80's styling down to a tee. :)

Thank you Sharon. I've been working on these for a whole month, but it's been fun.

Wow! This is so great. I would love to do a nicely designed set of DVDs of our family's home movies like this someday. :)

You really did a great job with this project. I love sooooo much how you used the red splatter to create a bloody feeling.

Thanks everybody for your feedback! I didn't thank you sooner, because I was in Rome for a few days - actually my first time in Italy. The reason why I started learning Italian and why I finally went to Italy was actually La Piovra - well, more inspiration or kick-off than reason, but there is a strong connection all these events. :-) And thanks to the vacation I was able to finish my project... I was telling myself that it would be fitting to do it before the trip. :-)

It's a really good series IMHO, but be prepared that there are no happy ends and there is a lot of death... and it's all very sad really. But the script, the acting, the production AND the most memorable music (Ennio Morriconne from season 2 onwards) make it outstanding. Also, while it ran for 10 seasons (European seasons, i.e. approx. 6 episodes done at random times, not every year), I only really like the first 6 - the first one is superb in a raw, almost-documentary way. I found the second a bit long-winded, but the third is interesting again and the fourth is on par with the first, even though the tone is one of tragic opera there (but as for the acting, it's the best one, at least for me - the highlight of the whole, in a lot of ways). Five and six are still fine, but they should have stopped there I think.

As for finishing big projects - I think this totally depends on the type of person. I'm personally scared of P365, AWITL and all the other types of projects that are necessary to do on a regular basis. With vacation books or the DVD project I did here you have a liberty to do it whenever you feel like it. So I usually create in splurges, but it seems to work. If I had to do a vacation book in one go, I think I'd run out of breath quickly (that said, I did the Piovra project almost in one go, but I have to say in the very end I was tired and had to turn to fashion LOs to find my Muse again). But that's me, for other people my approach might not work at all.

You've always done an amazing job on the CD's you've shown us, and this collection is just fab. I love the retro feel - perfect for the subject.
