Texting Apps for Kids
My 11 year old got a Kindle Fire for Christmas, and he wants to be able to text his friends with it. So, I'm trying to find a good, truly free app that will enable him to text when he's connected to wifi. Any suggestions?
Also, are there limitations on these kinds of apps as far as what other kinds of devices they can send messages to? I know nothing about texting apps aside from what I've always used on my own phone, and that's not an option for him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I'm totally following this! I'm so NOT tech savvy and haven't had any luck finding something on my own.

I've got this same dilemma. My dad bought all the grandkids Fire's and they are far apart. So they want to be able to stay in touch.
I've looked at a few apps, but didn't find anything I really liked. Two cousins are using Skype and just using the message box to "talk" to each other. Like instant messaging. I'm lost right now on what to do....if I find anything I'll come back and share. |
totally following also. Zach gets to stay home alone Tuesdays now while me and the youngers do Scouts and I'd love to have a way for him to reach me.

I'm no help for androids for iPads we did set up a separate iTunes account for my oldest. He has iMessaging now. The parental controls on his account are super strict he has to ask permission to download anything (before he even tries to), there isn't web browsing on their iPads right now though we may add that back. For messaging he can only use it with wifi there is no data plan on the iPad and he can't add contacts without my password. So he just has me, my husband, his grandmas, aunt, and older cousin who have iPhones. My youngest got a Fire for Christmas but is too little to care about texting yet.
