Nope - no loss at all. I do ALL my layered files in .tiff - layouts, designing, etc.
The importing features, like Col said...LZW & ZIP. Otherwise, it doesn't do much in the way of file size for you.
And like Beckie - once I've printed, I toss the layered files, anyway, so they don't stay and clutter up my PC - typos and all
