Angie - the first year is always the hardest for a big change like that. Once you get through this year, and if you decide to tell them this is the new tradition, then they'll have to deal with it from now on.
When we only had 2 kids, we travelled to Missouri every other year - what a PAIN that was taking all of the gifts with us! I had to ship them first since we couldn't carry them all on the plane. I do still miss MY Christmases at my parents' house (my sisters still go over there every year), but that was MY deal, not my kids. They deserve their own Christmas in their own house. I had it, my husband had it, now they have it.
