Golly I'm glad I did a print test on my font size

I'm taking ridiculously, painstakingly, detailed plans for my 2016 PL album but I'm glad I checked my font size because the size I had on my test page is HUGE. It doesn't look like it on the screen (even when I changed the view to 'print size'), but I wanted to double check so I printed a draft.

Geesh! It would've looked like a children's picture book, lol!

So, a little tip... check your font size before you order your photo books!

It's Century Gothic on a 12x12 and I had it set to 18. I would never set it that large if I was typing/printing anything else out, but for some reason it looked ok on my pages. I lowered it to 12 pt. and it's perfect.

I print 12x12, and for most fonts I like 11 or 12. Every once in a while I use something very chunky that can go as low as 8 or 10. It's rare that I go higher than 12 for journaling, though I might if my journaling was just a single quote. I'm usually trying to fit in as much as possible!

Yeah, I was thinking I needed to go bigger because I had a 5x5 album done once and wasn't thinking about my font size and some of the journaling is too small to read comfortably. That was just an oversight when I was choosing my book size.

In Photoshop, Print Size is dependent on your screen resolution. There's a way to change it but you can also hold up a piece of paper over your screen and adjust until the page size is the same. On my Mac it's about 74%.

In the Photoshop Preferences under Units & Rulers there's an option for Screen Resolution. By default it's 72 but most screen resolutions are more than this now so you have to calculate it yourself.

What you want to do is measure the width of your actual physical screen and then divide your screen's pixel dimensions by that number.

So for example my screen is 13 inches wide (across not diagonal - use a ruler, not your screen size) and has a resolution of 2880 pixels so 2880 divided by 13 is 221. That's the number I would put in the Screen Resolution box. Then when you choose to view Print Size, you'll get the actual size it will be printed.
