Default NSBR: I want to crochet...I think lol

So I think I want to learn to crochet. Well I'm pretty sure I do...lol. It's not that hard right? Besides I feel like I need another hobby.

Let's be honest, I really just want some of those cute little beanies for Kennedy. I love the ones that look like little teddy bears. I stalk etsy all the time looking at them (and I should just buy one) but I don't want to spend the money lol.

So I figure I'll just try to make one.

Where do I start?

Step 1: have baby.
Step 2: feed baby.
Step 3: sleep.
Step 4: feed baby.
Step 5: sleep
REPEAT all but Step 1.

Learn to crochet later. hehe

she can crochet while feeding the baby! Especially if you plan on breastfeeding Sometimes those marathon sessions can be draining, learning to crochet would help pass the time.

I have NO clue how to crochet. I think there are bound to be tutorials on youtube though? (i'm a big visual learner)

There has been some talk of knitting/crocheting recently. Try searching the forum for other posts.

Get yourself over to Ravelry.com and sign up. They will send you an invitation to join within a couple days. There are HUNDREDS of free patterns there, lots of baby hats & beanies. Once you are in, join groups for crocheters (Beginning Crochet, The Art of Crochet & Crochet on Ravelry are awesome). Ask questions, watch videos & get some basics (a skien of yarn and the appropriate hook size)!!

I love to crochet! I'm currently working on a slouch hat for me as my baby blanket is on hold until I get my shipment, and have made a couple pom-pom hats for my baby-2-be. I haven't scrapped in ages - too busy playing with hooks & yarn, haha!

My mother does some crocheting, but mainly just basic stuff like coasters, towels, stuff like that. I'm sure she could teach to me to do a basic stitch/chain.

The nice thing about crochet is that there aren't any super complicated stitches. It's just "basics", and just the way they are combined that give the different looks. Your mom will probably be able to teach you a lot of what you want to know! My biggest problem was learning to follow a pattern.

Good luck! I tried, and failed. But I'm not much good at having more than one hobby, don't have enough time! I think I'm just going to splurge and buy my bubba one of those cute hats off etsy!

Ahhhh. . . if I could only show my scarf that I have spent at least 10 hours on. . .you would no longer think it was a good easy hobby. I figured out that the yarn and the hooks cost me 40 dollars. For half a scarf. Buy the hat on etsy and start a baby book where you can just plop in the photos!

I think it's way easier than knitting also - I learned to crochet and knit when I was about 9 or 10 (my grandmas taught me) but I gave up on knitting a LONG time ago. I still crochet though and I've been teaching my DD (10) this winter. Hats wouldn't be my first choice to learn on though, but it can be done once you know how to do each of the basic stitches and learn how to read a pattern

Or con someone into buying one those hats off etsy.

SO I've been stalking etsy all morning and I did sign up for ravelry too. But I showed my mother these 2 items and I think she is going to give them a try lol. (better her than me)
One is an adorable bear ear flap beanie with a flower and the other is baby ankle boots with buttons that look like little uggs.

Links??? I love browsing Etsy for good patterns!

My sister has a store (knotsewcute) with crochet patterns on Etsy, and in the next couple month it will be full of baby items (she's currently designing stuff and we will be using my baby as her model)! Just so you know, lol.

Holly, I actually have patterns that resemble both of those patterns. They are fairly easy. But, I would recommend that you learn the basics first, because the boots can be a bit tricky.
