I just got a new computer with Windows 11. It's horrible to miss those features and it's slowing me down enormously. I really don't know what they were thinking

I've been offered it for my Dell laptop, and mine will be 3 years old in March. I wonder what makes some qualify and others not. I'm not upgrading right now. The folder images are part of it, but I also like to give them time to work out the glitches and incompatibilities before I make a major upgrade like this. With an older computer like mine, I suspect the upgrade will have more "surprises" than with a newer computer.

I still can't believe they just got rid of the folder previews. I mean, yeah it uses a lot of resources, but how about just giving the user the option whether or not they want to show them. Sheesh! Lol.

I did see somewhere that the next big update is bringing at least partial folder previews back. So there's hope! Can't wait until Fall when that update is released!

I think you can still go back. And, good to know about the Mac. You would think they would have previews because they were always know as being an operating system that could handle graphics. I'll do some heavy research before making the jump when the computer I have now blows up. lol

I'm still using my old Dell computer that is running windows 8! I upgraded to Windows 10 when it came out and it was horrible! I don't think this computer would be able to upgrade to 11, but I don't want to, either, LOL!

Oh, no--I'm sorry! It stinks to be so frustrated with an upgrade. Everything in this thread is 7 months old from when Windows 11 was very new. I wonder if anyone outside the SSD community came up with a fix since then.

There are some work arounds, but it seemed SUPER tedious & time consuming so I hoped there would be enough complaints that "Windows" would make a change. I did find this info: "Folder previews support was removed with the original Windows 11 release and it’s making a return with version 22H2 to be released sometime this Fall"

Windows girls!
KCB gave me a tip of this program https://www.xnview.com/en/xnviewmp/ and it helps. A little. Maybe I am going to be able to do a kit in 3 months, instead of 3 years. LOL |

Oh no... I was about to post this very issue today. I can't believe windows did this. I JUST got a new computer and downloaded photoshop. I haven't had time to scrapbook in years, and finding new tech doing this is a big let down. I was already stressed about learning the new creative cloud when I was so used to CS3!

I did and it drives me nuts that I can't see what's in the folder. I didn't know you can revert back so I might just have to do that. And give my feedback.

YES! While not like they used to be, at least a corner of the folder preview is better than nothing!

Is this fix only in the professional version or also in the home version?

It will be available to all but they roll it out to users in phases. I don't have it as being available for me yet.

I have PRO version and apparently I was one of the first to get it because I was telling everyone on FB and they were like "Kiana you're crazy" lol
BUt yes, it's not quite the same, but better than no preview at all

That's such good news! My laptop is starting to show it's age, but there was no way I was going to voluntarily get a new one and go to Windows 11 until the previews were back. I'm still hoping to put it off a while, but at least now I won't have to be scared of Windows 11.

I understand your frustration with losing the folder previews after upgrading to Windows 11. I had the same problem when I jumped, which was a huge disappointment.
It's good to hear that you found an article that confirmed that folder previews are no longer available in Windows 11. I ended up switching back to Windows 10 because, for me, the loss of thumbnails on my folders was a deal breaker. If you're also considering switching back to Windows 10, keep in mind that you can purchase a Windows 10 key. You can also look for cheap windows 10 keys online. |

I've still resisting "upgrading". Both my computers push it every time I restart. Hopefully they won't force it in the future until they fix some things.

I don't. I have Windows 11 Home and it has never updated to the version (22H2) that has the previews. And, I haven't been able to figure out how to get it. I've actually gotten used to not having them so it doesn't really matter.

well shoot. I was hoping the home version would be good to go. No previews is a deal breaker for me.

Supposedly it can be updated to version 22H2 (I have 21H2 installed 4/5/22 when this computer was built by Dell) for the Home version but my windows update keeps saying I'm up to date. I just need to get the guy that does computer stuff for me to see what he can do. But he has 4 kids (one less than a year old), works full time, does paying side jobs and coaches swimming! He works me in for emergencies but I don't consider this an emergency.

I have avoided my new laptop. I did one layout on it, was done, before the thumbnails of pngs in folder showed up. Is this the way it is?
Not turned it on since |
