Sigh.. this child of mine........
JJ's arm moved within his cast and unfortunately both bones rebroke. They don't want to take him out of his cast and reset it because they feel that it would do the same thing. He will be in the cast an extra week, and it's possible that his arm will be crooked when they do take it out of the cast. Just have to wait and see. They said his arm would return to normal within a year.
Here is the xray from yesterday... BLAH. My poor baby.

Oh! That poor kid! I have 3 boys and know how frustrated they are if they ever have to miss gym class. I hope his arm will be okay when the cast comes off. Casts are hard to live with - I'm sure he can't wait for that to come off. Hopefully his arm isn't giving him a lot of pain.

Sara - You are so calm about these things. I would have been the doctor's face about it not healing right and needing it to heal perfeclty so it doesn't break down the road. LOL! I probably would have needed an escort out of that office.
I sincerely hope that this will heal well for him. You really don't need anything else!

Why even cast the dang thing at all if that is what is was going to do? I swear-Zak has had two broken bones and if that would have happened I would have freaked...I think I might try and get him to an ortho and if this idiot is one-I would find another-that can't be right Sara!

I work in an ortho office and this is fairly common. The problem is that casting is really one of the only options. And the ortho doc hopes that the cast will hold it in place. Your only other options are A) to put in plates - which is a big surgery and most ortho docs won't do because since he is still growing, they do NOT want to disrupt his growth plates AT ALL!!! Or B) they put in something called flexible nails. The flexible nails have to be put in right away after the fracture happens. And with both the plates/screws and the flexible nails, they have to have a 2nd surgery down the road for the hardware to be removed. Surgery carries its own risks - and you'll be pretty hard pressed to find an ortho doc who is going to put a small child through surgery if they don't have to.
I honestly think his arm will remodel and be totally fine down the road. When the cast is removed, his arm is going to be crooked - but as he grows it will straighten out. It usually takes about a year or so to happen. I would trust the opinion of your ortho doc Sara -- especially since it is an office you are familiar with and have totally trusted in the past. (((hugs))) I hope he is not in too much pain, and heals up quickly!

I didn't know that could happen either! Poor kid! And mom! I'm sorry! Apparently, your plate is not full enough already. You must be super woman--even if you don't think so.
