Did you know your FB friends can print YOUR pics?!

I received a newsletter from Walmart today that said, "Print favorite photos and create photo gifts from the Facebook albums of friends and family."

OK so I KNOW people could always right-click save as, but I am totally uncomfortable with people I don't really know well being able to print MY pictures without MY permission.

IDK - Maybe it does ask permission, but knowing FB, it probably doesn't. :thumbdown:

Am I overreacting? or do you agree?
 
I guess I've always known it's possible, and it does make me uncomfortable. That's why I'm pretty careful about who I let see my photos, and if a photo is questionable in any way (like kids in the bath), I don't post it on FB.
 
Aren't the photos small? Like would then even print decent? I only have 2 profile pictures and one mobile loaded picture on my FB.
 
I don't like that either. I have set all my albums to "friends only" to be able to see them. At least if someone prints, it will be someone that I know and don't have to worry about! I think you can even do a "selected" list. So if you only want it for family or something you can do that.

Go to Account (top right corner) --> Privacy Settings. Click "customize Settings" that is highlighted in blue towards the bottom. Then you can pick "friends only".

I know! The thought of some creepy person that wants pictures of my kids just gives me the chills!
 
Yes, anyone can really right click and save. For this reason, anything I put online, I resize really small. I am rather surprised that Wal Mart would be promoting such a thing considering how stingy they are with copyrights and all.:confused:
 
The quality would be crap, no? Only friends can see my pics, so at least it's someone I know, but it's still pretty stupid. Facebook is getting worse and worse for the stuff they're allowing.
 
eee... that creeps me out too! I'm surprise, too, that is allowed with copywriting... when I print out invites that I designed or portraits of kiddo, I always have to sign a release form that I am a photographer/or I have release rights to print... I'm flattered that you think my work is that good... but come on!
 
I would think the quality would be terrible as well, but some people might upload larger images? IDK.

Yeah, I do find it kind of ironic that Walmart and Facebook has no issue printing pictures from facebook without permission since they both have you say you have "rights" to the images you upload/print.
 
Scary. I took my pictures down from Facebook a few months ago, out of concern for privacy issues, and I'm so glad I did. I only have a very small group of FB friends, but I only have very limited information posted.

Thanks so much for the links! I even had friends who were already using them. Don't think that they were printing mine, but just don't want the possibility.
 
yeh so i went in.. and trie dto access ANYONES photos.. and there's nothing. i cant see anyones.. not even mine ^_^. I dont think this is a big scary thing
 
I didn't have anyone using any of the applications but I went ahead & blocked all three of them. Just to have it done. I usually upload web size images (and have even started putting a watermark on them) but I know most people just upload photos straight from the camera that are full size so those would probably print okay.
 
Thank you for this! I just let my 15yo ds register for FB yesterday...so will be getting that changed on his as well.

I maintain our Team's FB and sure didn't want pics printed! ...I also sent out an e-mail to the team to alert them since I know a lot of the kids on the team have FB (and parents too).

Could we turn this thread into a FB special tips thread?

I still haven't figured out how to get MY NAME from showing up on the team's FB page ... it's listed as a "non profit" page but displays my name with it. It wouldn't let me put the team name as a person... kept refusing me.
 
I don't know, but whatever you do, anyone with access to your pics can still save them to their computer and print them. Isn't that so?
 
yes, but if they right-click and save to print...the quality would be terrible since a lowes pic is shown. However, it seems if you use a print service, FB will upload the full-sized image to be printed. (although I always resize for the web so it's not that big of an issue for me.)
JUST icky...like Virgin Mobil grabbing that girl's picture off of flikr a couple of years ago for its marketing campaign w/o her permission.
 
I have all my photos (well everything actually) set to friends only. Most of them i would send printed pics to if they asked but yeah.

Here's my perspective, and keep in mind my reasoning...

I actually *like* this. A good part of the reason why I got facebook was to share my photos with distant family and with our exchange students. It got so very time consuming to zip the photos, send the zip files, teach the exchange students how to unzip them, etc, whenever the students wanted to print photos for a scrapbook or to mail home or anything. I tell them about these stores in order for them to order their own prints of photos of our events, but I also indicate that before printing any of their friends' photos (outside of my own photos that I take) that they should ask their friends.
Then again, our students all sign a photo/video release at the beginning of the year.
 
I also have many family and friends that I share pics on facebook so they can print pics - hopefully I don't have any friends that would abuse this - I do have my son and daughters facebook pages locked

Is this blocking others from printing your photos via these apps or it it just blocking you from using these apps? I see that when you block it says that XX App will be blocked from getting any info about you but does this actually block the apps from your photos?

I'm on the apathy train. I highly doubt any of my friends are out there trying to print my photos. If they are... well more power to them. LOL

I don't worry much about it either. I resize everything to 600 x 600 px anyway. For pictures / LOs of other people, I always ask for their permission and respect if they don't agree. I only allow my friends to see the pics. I don't think they'd go and use them in uncanny ways. And, last of all, I do think before posting and choose the pics I publish carefully.

Anyway, thanks for teaching me that despite FB resizing the pics they are still there in their original size. Didn't know that.
