Default when do boys..become aware of their smell.

now that i think about it.. do they ever??? i've had to tell men they were stinky before too.

good lord. kiddo just walked by me and almost knocked me on my butt with his smell. I of course, informed him that he needed to shower immediately and he's now all emo and upset. "You always think I smell" "You're the only one who ever says I stink" (because I'm honest? you DO.)

He wears deodorant but maybe it's time to move on to an antiperspirant level funk killer. I don't know. We're still fighting about bathing every day.. so there's that problem too He needs it but I just can't get it into his head that his entire self smells bad My father's even tried the 'no one likes the smelly kid' route.. to no avail lol

I'm of the mind that boys don't notice unless someone tells them.

I've been a stickler about getting my kid to bathe. So it's part of his routine. Sometimes he whines about it, but I made 'personal daily habits' part of his requirement for getting his allowance. That includes, bathing, brushing teeth, putting on his pajamas without making a big scene, etc.

My kiddo is a sweaty one and down here that's pretty much year round. He's definitely aware of it now (age 8). He puts on deodarant every night after his shower and again in the morning before he gets dressed. He doesn't like to be the smelly kid and will sometimes take a shower in the middle of the day on the weekend when he can tell that he smells. I have a weirdo, but I love that he thinks about it!! LOL!

What Rachelle said. Mine is 20 and really only became distinctly aware of hygiene specifics until the whole girl thing started.

Mine is 19 and only started caring when he graduated from high school, got a job and started college.

I teach pre-K and I'm so happy to be in a building that's pre-K only. In a comprehensive preK-5th building, I hated the smell of the halls after lunch recess... nasty. I wanted to pass out deodorant by the stick.

Mine is almost 12 and for the last couple of years he's been smelly. We got him his own heavy duty deodorant and some cologne. He hates showering but he's got no choice, I send him in (once in there I can't get him out) He sometimes is a bit whiffy after school but generally he's good since he started using his "smells" each morning.

I have a 10 year old girl who can't recognize when she stinks so it must not be just a boy thing!

And, my six year old can get pretty smelly.

Then again, so can my hubby.

I'm doomed.

Bribery... I am not above it EVER.

If you shower I will let you have 10 min extra iPad time. Done and done. My daughter just had "the class" ban out girls and hygiene and puberty last Friday so she keeps coming up to me and saying "should I shower tonight?" And I reply... Do you think you should shower? At least she is starting before the stink!

lol. love reading these! We don't have kids in our house since everyone has grown up, but I do remember those primary school years...whenever I walked past the boys, I could smell a whiff of unpleasantness, so I've learned not to breathe when I walk past them!

I think it could be kids. lol! I watch some friend's kids 2 days a week after school... and it's not just my own that stink, and it isn't just for boys... it's girls too! LOL!

I think mine will start to care when they start to care about girls. LOL! For now, we go by the every other day schedule to get them in a habit, and they don't get too smelly. Now, some days we go off schedule, but only an extra day.

I am under the firm belief that it takes at least a year (and sometimes longer) between the time a boy starts with the "man stink" during puberty and the time he notices it.

But once he does, it's all over... let the "Axe" revolution begin, hehe.

They NEVER notice! DH smells and he thinks he doesn't! Man, I hate that I have to tell him every.single.time, that he stinks! Good thing that he showers every night, otherwise, I'll have him sleep outside everyday!

There are 2 kinds of smells. The BO smell and the musky-outside-playing smell. The first one is more easily fixed with a deodorant/antiperspirant. The other is an all-over body smell that really can only be fixed with a shower or dip in the pool. In my household of 5 males, we don't have a problem with BO - they all use deodorant - it's the other one. My DH doesn't take kindly to me telling him specifically he smells. So I usually just say they all smell! Fortunately, they all like taking showers and always have (and of course, my boys are all teenage and above so they SHOULD be taking care of themselves).
