Seattle area ladies....
I know that living there you might not know of the best places to stay....but I need to get my hotel room soon. We'll be there the end of August through Sept 6th, and I just realized that's over Labor Day weekend and some places are already booked.
Most of what we'll be doing will be downtown Seattle. I would like to be somewhere nice down there, but I also realize it will be more money to do that. It would be much cheaper to stay near the airport. We have friends in Kent, north of Seattle and my cousin in Redmond that we'll be driving out to see too. I will have a rental car because my dh won't be able to do that much walking by then...I'm sure we'll need to go back to the room during the day sometime so he can rest a bit before I drag him out again. Are you aware of any hotels there that are nice? It's just so hard looking online. I lived there for 11 years, but of course I never stayed downtown. OR...is there a really bad area that I need to avoid. I can't remember...if we do stay near the airport, about how far is it to downtown? 15 min? Anything else I need to be thinking about? Maybe staying just north of Seattle? My cousin in Redmond has a lovely downstairs apartment that they've offered to us, and while financially that would be awesome, it would be so out of the way to drive back and forth to...especially if we have plans again in Seattle in the evening, so I'm not going to take her up on it. I did that when I went to New York, and it was a pain. |

From Seatac to downtown can take 20-45 minutes depending on traffic. When we stay downtown, we stay at the Monaco Hotel.
http://www.monaco-seattle.com/ There is also the Fairmont Olympic or the Sheraton. They are walking distance to Westlake and the market. How about the inn at the market? Or the edgewater? Take advantage of the free bus service in the city; I am not sure when this will end but I understand it will be ending soon. |

I have no advice since I have never lived or stayed down there, but I hope Sheri pipes in cause I think she lives downtown or close to it

I wish I could be more help, but I've never stayed in a hotel in Seattle. I think you would find the trek from Sea-Tac to downtown Seattle cumbersome for mid-day breaks. Traffic can be pretty miserable during certain parts of the day.
If you can swing it, I'd look for hotels in the downtown area. |

We stayed at the Pan Pacific in downtown Seattle on our honeymoon 5 years ago. I think it was pretty new at that time and the nicest place I've ever stayed. We got an amazing rate online that made it doable but it is a pretty pricey hotel. We still talk about it all the time and will stay there again if we're ever in Seattle.

The Inn at the Market is booked that week. I already checked there. I'll check out some others when I get home from work! Thanks

Wish I could help you. I haven't lived here for a full year yet and the only hotel we stayed in was downtown when we came looking for a house. It was upscale (we didn't pay for it, so not sure of the rates)... was called the WAC (Western Athletic Club - i think).
Staying near the airport would be OK I would think as long as you allow 30 min or so for travel time into downtown or to Redmond. |

We just stayed at the Grand Hyatt a few weeks ago. I would stay there again, especially with another promotion. It was about 20 minutes from the airport. Walking distance to the market, quick monorail ride over to the Space Needle. Of course, parking is outrageous, as it is everywhere we looked downtown...

Last time I was there, we stayed at a Days Inn near downtown. It wasn't the nicest hotel we've stayed in, but it was clean, it was inexpensive, and it was centrally located.

Decisions, decisions!!! I really like the Pan Pacific Terra. It looks great and they have a great rate of about $250 a night if you book a month in advance (which we would). I'm still thinking we'll rent a car and have to pay for parking...I know a lot of what we'll want to do is downtown and we won't need a car, but for the times we'll want to head out to see family, or go to the Woodland Park Zoo, etc...I'll want to have a car.
Thanks for all your help ladies! |
