Thumbs up Backblaze saved my life

So, I normally back up to 2 places: an EHD (when I remember) and then I also use Backblaze to back up both my internal and external drives. Well, my internal HD was starting to make some clicking noises, so I decided I had better back up to the external but because of a bunch of new photos, the data wouldn't fit on the EHD. I deleted my last back up to make room and it still wouldn't fit, so then I had NO backup on my EHD (since I deleted the earlier backup). While I was waiting for a new larger EHD to arrive from Amazon, my internal drive failed (of course).

I ordered a restore file from Backblaze on an EHD which arrived in about 4 days. Everything worked flawlessly and all my files have all been restored. WHEW!!

Lessons learned: a local backup is great and convenient if you are diligent about it but -- because backing stuff up is not my full time job -- it isn't completely reliable. It was totally worth it to have Backblaze backing up my stuff automatically in the background. I know the online backups have problems sometimes but it worked for me!

DON'T FORGET TO BACK UP YOUR STUFF!

Yeah for Backblaze! I have Crashplan and a local backup, but my online backups through various companies have always been more reliable than my local one. The local is my attempt not to have to pay for the files on EHD, but I'm so glad to know I have that option there rather than be faced with losing it all or paying much more to see if anything can be saved!

I read recently that with back blaze you pay for an EHD to be sent, but if you return it within 30 days they will refund your $. Hooray! That works for me!

So glad you were able to restore your files - peace of mind!

Yes, I think that's new and I was thrilled when I learned that. I'm in the process of copying everything off the drive they sent me so I can return it. It's great for scrapbookers like us who have a lot of data but don't necessarily want to pay for their hard drive.

That's awesome, and definitely new. Or at least new-ish. It didn't exist when I was with Backblaze a few years ago.
