Question HELP - PSE won't work!

I'm using PSE 5 on Vista, I just started getting this runtime error. It won't let me open anything, save, even change fonts (the menu won't drop down). When I try to open something it give me a "can't perform operation" error and when I save it doesn't even give an error, it just won't do it.

Then when I shut it down, that's when I get the runtime error. I'm uninstalling it right now and will re-install after. You think that will help? I tried the repair way without unistalling but I kept getting the same errors, so I thought it would be best to do everything over.

you know this sounds vaguely familiar . . .

but alas, I am useless b/c I don't remember what I did to fix it. I think it happened to me with an earlier version of PSE since I never had 5.

I like to blame everything on new fonts. Have you installed any new fonts? Or any new programs . . .

Hope the re-install sorts it out for you.

Are you low on RAM or hard drive space?

How frustrating!! I don't what would help that but sometimes just restarting my computer does wonders to fix odd problems... this might be more complicated than that though. Hope you find the fix soon!

check your cpu performance if too much of the RAM is being used at once it will not let you save

I'd probably run a Check Disk of the drive just to be sure there were no errors. I know I started to get runtime errors in Lightroom when my drive was having issues. Here's some directions on how to do it in Vista.

Oh I hope you can fix it! I had PSE 4 on vista and it stopped working, the program wouldn't open at all... it says I have an unrecoverable error. Guess it's time to upgrade for me!

However.. PSE 5 is supposed to be fine with Vista (and 4 isn't) so hopefully yours is just a quick fix.

I sometimes get weird errors if I have lightroom and PSE open at the same time. And if I have PSE open for too long without using it, other things lock up. I know thats not any help at all - but you aren't alone!!

After a couple of tries, I got it to work again! Phew! I didn't think it was that RAM - I have 3GB for goodness sakes - and I never had a problem with my 512mb desktop. It worked for a few after I re-installed, but ended up with the same errors after a while. I think it was just tired. I had PSE open all day.

I restarted the laptop after reading the comments here and now it seems to be okay. Thanks for the advice!
