Default Best Reads of 2014

I picked up so many good books based on this thread last year, so let's do it again.

What are your favorite books you read this year?

Wonder - My 9 year old boy loved this book so much he asked me to read it so we could discuss. I loved it too and am thrilled a book like this has a special place in my boy's heart.

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry - I love books devoted to books and the people who love them, so The Storied Life and I were a match from the start.

Ready Player One - Fun read, loved all the 80's references.

Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend
- Such a creative frame of reference

In no particular order - these all got 5 stars from me on goodreads this year..and I don't give out 5 stars to just any old book

The Gentleman Bastard Series by Scott Lynch - (only the first 3 in the series are out so far) If you can listen to the audiobooks b/c they are fabulous
- The Lies of Locke Lamora
- Red Seas under Red Skies
- The Republic of Thieves

I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline (another great one on audio narrated by Wil Wheaton which just adds to the awesome geekery of the book)

Landline by Rainbow Rowell

All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doer - AH-mazing

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness - this is a graphic novel but so so amazing.

Attachments by Rainbow Rowell

Between Shades of Grey by Ruta Septys

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

A King's Ransom by Sharon Kay Penman

Wool by Hugh Howey

Hollow City by Ransom Riggs

Night by Elie Wiesel

To Serve Them All My Days by R.F. Delderfield

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt -- one of my favorites of the year (and ever).

I just finished The Storied Life of AJ Fikry today and I just loved it too!

I loved the Wool Series by Hugh Howey.

The Orenda by Joseph Boyden was one of my absolute favourites of the year.

And I really liked The Leftovers by Tom Perrota

These are the books that I rated at 5 on my Goodreads this year. I am always looking for my next favourite book!

I didn't read as many as I would have liked, but here are some of my faves -

Replay - this was an old book (written in the 80s) that I read for a book club selection, and I LOVED it. It's one that has been on my mind even weeks after I finished reading it.

TImebound and Time's Edge - My favorite new series. The final book will be released in the fall of 2015, and I can't wait!

In Time's Like These - new author of another fabulous time travel novel. The sequel is coming soon.

Gone Girl - I'm probably one of the last to read this one, but I read it earlier this year and loved every single page. I'm waiting for the movie to show up at Redbox!

I just picked up If I Stay because Kendra read it and enjoyed it. That girl doesn't like to read AT ALL, so if she liked something, I always feel the need to read it, too (the last one that she read and liked was Hunger Games. LOL)

Did you like it, KCB?

"TImebound and Time's Edge - My favorite new series. The final book will be released in the fall of 2015, and I can't wait!"

I loved these too! So glad to see someone else who does! There's also a novella, Time's Echo, and another novella coming out in the spring to tide us over.

YES! I was gonna link up the novella, but I was afraid that would seem obsessive. LOL Such good books. Have you heard about the new Kindle Worlds? People can post fan fiction of the Timebound books with Rysa's approval. I haven't read any of them yet, but I'm thinking I'll need to!

I LOVED Replay - I read it years ago (hate to admit but probably 20+ years ago!) and had been looking in every used bookstore I go into since for my own copy to buy. I finally found another copy about a year ago. I seriously have thought about that book for years!

I love time travel stories so I will have to take a look at those other ones! Thanks for the recommendations!
