Wedding Gifts... Best of
DH's step sister is having a wedding shower in a few weeks... what was that one gift (outside of cold cash) you got from your wedding/showers that you use all the time?
I'm trying to get ideas... mine was a programable crockpot (and crockpot cookbook) and the Nesco Roasters... those are things that I still use, 10 years later...

my parents gave us a KitchenAid stand mixer and my sweet little beast is still going strong after 23 years of labor intensive use on a weekly basis!

Pyrex measuring cups and pans I think are the only things I still have from our wedding 11 years ago. I wish they came with the silicone lids like you can get them now. That's what I bought my SIL, a set of pyrex with lids and a set of OXO Kitchen Utensils And a good crock pot, yes! I've probably been through 3 or 4 over the years. I have a programmable one now, but it seems to run really hot to me, so I don't program it often. Last edited by nesser1981; 04-19-2015 at 03:07 PM. |

Of course the dishes, silverware, etc. that we registered for. But the one thing we hadn't asked for and ended up loving was a breadmaker. (It eventually died, and we didn't replace it because we decided that having the bread in the house was just too much temptation when we were trying to lose weight.)

Towels, wash cloths, etc. I also still have my crock pot. I'm going to make this for a friend for her house. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/448319337882235561/

A good set of knives, programmable crockpot, & pyrex are what we still have & use all of the time. Oh, and those big sheet trays! I can't ever find them but we were given 3 & they're still with us after 8 1/2 years. They're the ones that you can make sheet cakes with but we mainly use them for cookies.

Funny you say that....my mom bought me a rice cooker a couple years ago for Christmas. I was like "gee, thanks mom for really putting thought into my gift." I seriously use it all the time. I love it.

My wedding shower was quite awhile ago... Most of the kitchen items have since been replaced or upgraded to better versions. Here are some of the items I still have:
Besides that though...in general the items in my kitchen that I use a lot are:
If it were me buying the present...I would buy the best quality item that you can afford. Most of the things I replaced or upgraded because they either broke, wore out or just never really worked. You want the receiver to smile every time she takes it out of the cupboard! I know some of the things on these lists can be pricey (like a several hundred dollar Vitamix). A good quality Rice Cooker can be found at less than that. And the best waffle irons (like making Belgian waffles with various 'darknesses') I have this one: http://smile.amazon.com/Chefs-Choice...ce+waffle+iron Is around $50. Good luck finding something special!

I wore out the rice cooker I got back then and replaced with another one just like it (I liked it that much). My KitchenAid came later but I still LOVE it!!

The best thing about my marriage was getting my KitchenAid mixer... I kept it in the divorce and still have it after 16 years of use.

Good frying pans, knife set, good spatulas/spoons/etc.
We did a basket for a friend one time that had all the disposable stuff in it too...tons of paper plates, solo cups, plastic utensils, disposable aluminum pans, etc. It may not be something that hangs around for a long time, but for that particular friend who was a busy person who hosted a lot of parties, it was perfect.
