Default What a way to start the day

Let me just preface this by saying I'm very, VERY thankful for my luck this morning.

I've been commuting from my small town to the city 40 km away for the last 11.5 years. It takes about 30 minutes - That's 3028 workdays that I've done this drive.

Today - I pulled into the first set of lights in the city, it was red so I stopped. A minute later I saw green, so I went. I saw a fast moving vehicle coming from my right and my thought was "Holy Sh!T he's running the red light!" and slammed on my brakes.

Then I looked up and realized *I* was running the red light. The green light I saw was for the cross lane traffic, NOT for my way. I was about 1.5 seconds away from being T-boned, and it would have 100% been my fault.

I don't think anything like that has happened before, unless I did it and didn't remember doing it because there were no unintended consequences. I drive in early, so I'm arriving at the city around 7:15 am and traffic is light, thank goodness!

OMG, Trina, you had your guardian angel working double time this morning.

I once did EXACTLY the same thing, but...
1. I was in college
2. I had 2 kids under the age of 5 in my car with me
3. I was so sleep deprived

I counted my blessings and kissed my roommate's kids a gazillion times before dropping them at school that day. The school was 2 blocks from where this happened.

I did the same thing once- they changed the traffic lights in a part of the city that I didn’t frequently travel. It was dark and I had the kids with me. The lights turned green but they were not meant for my lane. I drove into the intersection and noticed movement to my right just in time to stop the car in the median area between oncoming lanes! Traffic passes full speed in front of me. Then, on the radio a song came on “God’s not Done with You” by Tauren Wells and the kids and I breathed a sigh of relief that we were ok! It was such a scary experience! Mistakes happen.

Yikes! That's so scary! It definitely makes you wonder what clicked differently in your head today. Glad it ended safely!

So glad you stopped in time and were okay! We have to take in so much information so quickly when we're driving--it's 100% human for us to make mistakes sometimes and realize later that we didn't see something correctly.

Well that was a scary 'almost'. One thing I taught my daughter, as I taught her to drive. Consider all the other drivers idiots. And some days YOU are the idiot. All of us can have that momentary total lapse as we drive and could cause an accident. Thank goodness today you realized in time!!!

Exactly I love this!

So glad no one was harmed. It definitely makes us sharper drivers when we have close calls and when WE are the idiot

Sometimes it is so easy to not pay full attention while driving on our normal commute. Glad you noticed and stopped
