Default Gonna need a Smurfs kit

My youngest has a new fascination with the Smurfs.

Has anyone got plans to make a Smurf kit? Are there any current kits that would fit the theme?

I agree...my son is obsessed with collecting all the ones from McDonald's now that we've seen the movie.

McDonald's used to sell just the toy for like a $1 for parents who were collecting... I wonder if they still do that?

When I was little I adored the Smurfs.....so I am a little bit curious for this movie which is in the cinema's in Holland right now.

I would love a kit, but I guess there's also something as copyright on these creatures? Or can you make a kit of everything?

No, I am sure there's copyright on using the actual characters...if someone were to make it, it would have to be "smurf-inspired"

We are collecting smurfs here too. We cannot find Grumpy but have duplicates of some others. We only got one Vanity tough.

My kids went crazy over the smurf toys. My sister's best friend's mom owns & runs the McDonald's in our town (4) so she asked her mom and got the kids all of the ones they don't have. I was so thankful to her because now we don't have to eat McDonald's anymore. lol. But I would love a smurf inspired kit.

I grew up with the Smurfs too. We had the cartoons and the comic albums all through my childhood. Did you know their creator was Belgian? I saw an interview the other day with the daughter of Peyo (the creator, who already died) and they said they are very selective in giving copyright. I doubt they would allow a scrapkit to be made about them, but a kit in the right colors and a couple of mushroom houses could work great! I still have to go see the 3D movie. But I'm a little scared they might have changed too much, being in 3D!

Kim, are you Belgian or Dutch? Just curious...hihi.

I think the copyright would really be a problem but if we can work around that a little? Just like the wizarding world kit from Jayday Day Studio is clearly inspired on Harry Potter, but the name is nowhere shown in the kit itself?

There have been plenty of kits in the shoppe inspired by things (disney, etc) that break absolutely no copyrights because it's just that- INSPIRED by. For example, to do a kit about Jesse from Toy Story, you could make a cow-girl themed kit, and do papers in colors of her clothing, or even have a paper that is cow-print like her pants. Disney doesn't have copyrights on the individual colors... but they DO have copyrights on the actual character.

You could easily get around copyright by not including actual smurfs at all. Just use the colors of the smurfs, that classic blue and white, and use the basic "feel" of the characters. You could even use word art like "brainy" "vanity" etc for various smurfs.

I think Hollywood has added a few of their own, as usual.

GET OUT! Off to pick up some on-line. My kiddos are smurf FREAKS. We've even started watching the oldies on Boomerang - the kids are addicted!

Add me to the list interested in a Smurf inspired kit...I was definitely planning to scrap a page about this phase (because it brings back memories for me, too!) - a new kit would be the icing on the cake!
