Default NSBR: Lymph Nodes ***Updated***

Big scare last night with my teen daughter. She was in excruciating pain in her left side... Could not even touch it. So we rushed her to the ER (thinking appendicitis) They thought so too. Drugged her up and rushed her into a CT Scan. It was not appendicitis, It is her left lymph nodes. They are swollen along with her kidney. Has anyone ever heard of this? I am at a loss. We have a follow up this morning with her pediatrician. Anyone been there?

eta: ..

lol that was random
what I was going to say.. is it possible that she has mono? It will cause major lymph node issues.. and can make your spleen get inflammed, swollen, etc.. That's what happened to one of my friends in hs.. spleen was majorly affected.

Yeah, I was going to say I'm a little confused by the ER "diagnosis" too when the appendix is on the right...

But want to send {hugs} and hope she is feeling better very soon.

I agree with La. Did the test her for mono? When I was in college, I got mono but wasn't diagnosed until I was rushed to the ER with liver failure and an extrememly enlarged spleen. The doc said that my spleen was in danger of rupturing if I had been involved in any sort of minor accident (fall, fender bender, etc.).

But here's the kicker... the ER doc was CERTAIN I didn't have mono. In fact, he refused to test me becuase he was so sure it wasn't mono. Luckily, my mom and boyfriend (now DH) insisted and sure enough... mono.

I ended up having to move back home for three weeks to recover and I missed a semester of college recovering.

It might be worth a check, Nonnie. (((hugs))) to you and your daughter. Scary stuff.

I hope its not mono and something more easily treated like a kidney infection. Mono takes so long to get over and makes you miserable. My son said last year he was almost wishing he was dead he felt so bad. Please let us know what her doctor says!

Thanks everyone - I am just as confused by the er too - we couldn't go in today because of the weather, but she is going in tomorrow... I was thinking mono too but they didn't think so... I am going to have her pediatrician test for it. She is also on antibiotics for strep right now so they think she (found out later) might have a kidney infection that the antibiotics are treating. We are just hanging in there and will know more tomorrow.

My Doctor told me that sometimes the lymph nodes swell when there's an infection in the body which might make sense if she has a kidney infection.

Appendicitis pain starts in the middle of the stomach and will move to the left AND right sides of the body as well as lower back pain even though the appendix is on the right side. This is also a sign of bladder/kidney infection as I found out last week with my DD.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their good thoughts and prayers and give a quick update - Turns out she has "chronic blockage" of the urethra (sp?).(tube between bladder and kidney) From what I understand this is pretty bad. They probably would of caught it sooner, but she was on antibiotics that ended a few days before (she had strep). The only solution apparently is surgery so we are headed to Dallas to see a specialist pediatric urologist and she will have to have surgery early next week. (we hope) Her dad leaves for a year March 5th so I PRAY that this is resolved before he leaves. Keep us in our thoughts and prayers... I'll keep you updated.
