Default My PS started running slow all of a sudden

I Googled for some fixes but it's getting really confusing. Any thoughts? I cleared the clipboard and it's no different. Shut everything down and restarted my computer. It's pretty dang irritating!

Have you installed any new fonts recently? Sometimes they can cause problems. Not having enough free space on my HD has messed PS up for me in the past, but that's usually more gradual.

Ok, so here's exactly what's happening. Maybe someone has an idea. Everything is running fine EXCEPT when I drag one file on top of another. So I open an element and when I copy & paste it onto my layout everything slows down. Takes about 10 seconds (which doesn't sound long, but it's annoying and not normal) before the element shows up on the page.

Thoughts? Suggestions? I'll try anything if I can figure out how to do it.

Val, do you have any programs running in the background? I know this will slow everything down, which feels like things lag in a sense, including PS. Not sure which windows you're running, but either way, you can check by doing a "msconfig"...do a google search regarding it.

Good luck

My husband just changed something in my settings because there's a conflict with windows 10 & PS! It seems to be ok now...we'll see.

I was just going to suggest a defrag or something.

When I have PS open, I change the bottom number to show the efficiency. That number may be going down for you which would indicate PS needs more memory to run and it is running out. It using your graphics card's memory (if you have it set to that) and then your scratch disk. Once it using the amount you allotted for the disk, it will use your main drive (if it doesn't already) and at that point you could start to see some lag (i.e. moving objects is very slow, slow loading, freezing).

Not sure if you are on a Mac or Windows PC, but in Windows I usually open the task manager when it happens to see what programs are using memory and taking away from PS. I have 2 drives now so thankfully I don't have to worry about it anymore. It can be a pain. Hope you get it worked out!

I think it's been way to long since I've done that.

I have an EHD that I keep forgetting to set up and use. This might give me the push I need to start using it!

I figured it out! My ex always took care of my laptop, so nothing has been done to it since last July. I had over 8,000 files in my recycle bin. So I got rid of all that and ran a defrag and VIOLA! everything is running quickly and smoothly.

Yeah! I'm glad you figured it out and got it working well again.
