Default Separating alpha

Is there an easy way to separate alpha from the single sheet with Photoshop? I would like to save each letter separately just like in most kits.

Hey Lea, here is a tutorial on how to use the alpha sheets...you can follow what it says but then after you cut each letter, save them individually as a png. Let me know if that makes sense and if not, I'll try to reword it.

Hey Lea, I'm sure you probably don't want to spend a lot of money, but Studio Flergs has an alpha action that's AMAZING!! I've been using it for years, to make my own alphas as well as use it when kits come with alphas not separated. You just place the alphas in/around the grid that she has set up for you and press enter. It's really easy to use. Setting it up, back years ago, was hard. But knowing what I know now, it isn't hard to set up!

That’s exactly what I was looking for!! I’ll see if I can afford it haha

Thanks Mary. That’s what I was doing but was wondering if there was a faster, easier way.

Hey Lea, while I was trying to help Diana with the beginning on digital scrapbooking, I stumbled upon this video on quickly separating page alphas that I thought maybe could help you

And I think it wouldn’t work for most cases because most alphas are not exactly aligned in a grid. I tried something similar manually and it cropped the letters all wrong because they are not in a straight line up and down and side to side.

No you'd have to manually move letters into the grid. It cuts on the gridlines so letters HAVE to be inside. It would do exactly what you want it to but you'd need to play around with it to get inside the gridlines.

Like this:

I dragged in a KCB alpha & it's all out of line. So I moved the letters into the grid & then it's ready to cut. It only took a minute or so to do it.

Do you have to use the rectangular marquee tool for each letter and create a layer by cut to move each one? or is there an easier trick?

I just put a marquee and moved. It's all still one layer. Just moved enough to put inside the boxes.

I bought this early on and gave up when I couldn’t figure it out. I sure would love to have alphas go faster, so I’ll give this another try.
