Default The Most Ridiculous Part of Being a Parent is...

that they drive you so bonkers that you just wish someone would give you an evening free so you can just be you, then about five minutes after they leave, you freakin miss them and wish they were with you. It's so ridiculous. I have been stressed over parenting issues lately and questioning if I am doing the right thing for him, I just needed a break so badly. Tonight I got one and I swear 30 minutes after I got home from work, I was like, I miss him, I wish he was here tonight before I even realized I was thinking it.

I agree. The other day I was out grocery shopping while both my kids were in school and I saw a mom chatting with her toddler, felt that nostalgic twinge and thought, "Awww ... I don't get to shop with my kids any more." Followed quickly by, "wait a second, my kids drove me nuts when I had to take them grocery shopping." Still part of me wanted them there.

Well, I homeschool.... So I clearly must have something against me-time.

I totally agree...last night my son had movie night at school and I didn't realize that the parents could just drop them off (new school). I stayed for a while and then left and had no idea what to do for the few hours that he would be there. I actually went back about a half hour early

Yeah, much as I love them, I relish every.single.second of any time I get to myself. But my youngest starts full day school next year, and I suspect that may finally be the point where I start missing them.

I was that way after DH passed away and I was dealing with my emotions and the kids' emotions, etc. For about a year or 2 I would be so grateful when family would take Cheyanne for a night and Christopher would be gone either with family or at a friend's. I would spend the first couple hours relishing the quiet and the me time but then I'd start wishing they were with me.

Now that Cheyanne is 13 and it's just the 2 of us at home I don't feel that way anymore. In fact, she doesn't like spending the night away from home these days for some reason and it's driving me nuts to have her here 24/7

I know! I can't tell you how many people tell me to soak in the toddler days because I'm going to miss them. I just tell them that I am soaking it in, but that doesn't mean that I don't want it over as much as they did. Now that my oldest is 4, I'm loving how much more pleasant he is to be around in general. I actually may be starting the crazy train of homeschool like Brook, but it seemed impossible before he (and I) matured to where we are now. Also, DH is really good at taking the kids out of my hair for a little bit when I need it.

I love the rare moments alone, but it does feel a little "off" for the house to be calm. Fortunately, there's enough crazy when everyone is here, that I can hold onto those memories, LOL.

This is me too. I'm totally fine with an empty house.

Glad to know I'm not alone. Man, when school started and they both went away, I get 6.5 golden hours every day where I do not have to listen to a child. There's no one yelling Mommy. No worrying that the silence is them getting into trouble. I can go do whatever I need without anyone dragging behind me.

Totally understandable for those of you who stay home or have small children, but I work and he goes to school, so I already have that built in time apart.

I totally cried that my 7 year old was at his first sleepover last night. I wanted to go sit outside their house and check in on hi.
