Default Cool update re: my ancestry post

I had posted a while back about poking around on ancestry.com to try and find some info about my family - specifically about my great grandfather. We never got really far, a lot of dead ends and general confusion. Nellahbean found a marriage record for me which was totally awesome ! ( ps she rocks) but past that the trail on him went cold.

About a month ago I received a message from a woman on ancestry. She is my moms.. 2nd? Cousin! She's the granddaughter of the sister of my great grandmother who was briefly married to the great grandfather I've been trying to find more information on ( woah. That was confusing. I don't know how to rephrase that lol. ) those two sisters are the ones that came from Ireland together so I was excited! If someone knew about this man it might be that branch of our family.
Alas.. She didn't know much- just the sketchy info we already knew. Though she is going to speak to her aunt soon to try to see if she remembers anything.

This morning She sent me a bunch of pictures she had - including one of my (great)nana, (great) uncle and grandpa when they were younger that I had never seen! As well as some of our family from Ireland. So. Cool.

There have been so many secrets (and half truths) with our family that it is really awesome to find someone that our history is connected to! She seems really excited and genuine. I can't wait to see if her aunt has any other info!

That's awesome! I had a membership on ancestry for awhile and found out a TON of info about my mom's side of the family...and some very sketchy info about my great gma. Which we all knew she was sketchy and had secrets, that was the Polish in her. She literally went by 3 different names...but we did find the boat manifest from when she came over from Poland to American when she was younger.

My dad's side is the one with lots of dead ends though...specifically his father as well. But that's because we believe he was adopted...possibly even illegally.

Ancestry and genealogy is fascinating.

that is awesome La! I admit, after hearing about your searching, I've been thinking about doing it for my family. My parents have confusing histories and, like yours, many mysteries. I have a TON of pictures and I have no idea who these people are, so doing some research would be good. I'm happy you are getting answers!!

I love searching for my family history. It brings me so much peace for those that have gone before me. Thanks for sharing.

That is awesome. I would love to get more photos of my ancestors. Alas, they didn't take a lot of them back then (I think it was kind of taboo in Asia in the past? they never really smiled in the photos either)

How cool. I would love to do some looking into my past, too.
