Boys vs girls
Do you use flowers and stuff for boys layouts?
I am working on my first boy layout and I am so stuck with the elements.....I am so used to use lots of flowers....but it seems not so appropriate for boys. I knew it....somebody is testing me!

Yes I use flowers on a boy layout. I think if you look in my gallery, I'm sure almost every layout of my son has flowers on it. I don't mind, I just NEED flowers on every page! I've tried to scrap pages with stars instead of flowers, but I never really like the layering of those...
You could use flowers in neutral colors and avoid the pink tones. Jenn's new kit has a couple of great boyish flowers! |

I have two boys and not only do I use flowers on their pages on a regular basis...I even use "girly" kits to scrap them!!
flowery boy layout girly kit + flowers! My gallery is filled with flowery pages and 95% of them are about my boys so I say pile on the flowers!

I have two boys and I do use flowers on their pages -- but not in "girly" colors and probably not as often as I use flowers on my daughter's pages.

I have 3 boys and I use tons of flowers on my pages. I can hardly seem to make a page without flowers. If I'm using a boy kit that doesn't have any flowers I'll go find them elsewhere in my stash.

I use them, but they are generally small and few and in 'boyish' colors. I'm not a big floral person in general though

I don't use many flowers at all, so I don't really use them on my boy pages. My boys are also at the age now where they wouldn't appreciate flowers on their pages, and I'm cool with that.

I ONLY have boys to scrap about (I have four boys) so I have no choice but to use flowers and pink!! Pink and flowers more flowers

I always use flowers. I think of them more in the way of "nature" than I do girly, so they fit for all layouts and occasions in my mind.

I uses TONS of flowers on my boy pages!!! I figure in 20 years my son is not gonna care if there are flowers on his pages. Plus I don't only scrap those pages for him I scrap them for ME and I LOVE flowers!!!

Nope, no flowers here. My boys don't like them on their pages and neither do I. It IS challenging though when there are SO many in all the kits just to skip over them and try to find something else to use.
The ONLY time I use flowers is if there is a girl in the photos with my boys. |

This is such a good question.
I only have boys, but I do end up with a few flowers on almost each page, probably because they are in so many kits. And let's face it, it is hard to come up with interesting and usable elements, and flowers are such a traditional stand-by. But if I do have a choice, I will choose an abstract chipboard element, greenery, stars, buttons, gears, or alpha letters instead of flowers. I will choose a paper (less bulky) flower over a real one. Sometimes I'll crop papers to the basic shapes that come with Photoshop like circles, stars, greenery, or the puzzle pieces. I'll even layer in some journaling elements if they aren't feminine. I'll add an under-layer of paint or splats. It's hard though, because I'm not really into heavy or urban grunge which a lot of "boy" kits tend towards. And, I love to layer, so my pages do end up with a lot of flowers, but I really do intentionally choose more masculine elements. |

I have to ditto this remark. Sure, my boys look through their albums on occasion, but have never said anything about a flower being on their page. It's mom's thing so they really don't care.

I use flowers on my son's pages if they work with theme; if it's a spring page or outdoorsy or about how much I love him, etc. If the page is about school, playing soccer or lego building, etc. - no flowers.

this is me too... I try to avoid using flowers on my boys pages, but sometimes they go with the theme of the layout and I'll use them... but I'm also lucky in that I have a girly girl so I can use lots of flowers on her pages

I might occasionally use a flower here and there, but mostly other type of elements. I definately would NOT make a big goopy cluster of flowers on my son's LO's. Unless perhaps it was a holiday LO of a group shot or something.
I do use: stars, arrows, pleated type elements, circular type elements, swirlies, gears, ribbon, string, buttons, acrylic bits, themed items (like a soccer ball, wooden fence). There are some handolled type looking 'flowers' that don't scream flowers. I'll use those too.

Yup I do, on pages I do of my husband Funnily enough I never even stopped to think if it would look weird or anything. There is an episode of the digishow where they discuss scrapping for boys and I agree with what some of them said: my pages are MY point of view of our stories, so it shouldn't matter if I want lots of greenery and flowers on it. I kinda avoid using overly pink kits for his solo photos, though. lol

I totally see the point in your question. I only have girls so boy pages intimidate me.

My oldest boy (8 years) hates anything he considers girly on his pages and has since he was 3 or 4, and my DH feels the same. So I'm like Misty--flowers only if it fits a theme like spring or if my DD or I are in the photo. My 6-year old DS doesn't care as much, but since he may as he gets older I stay away from flowers for him, too. I found it a lot harder to scrap without flowers a few years ago. Now that there are so many great boy kits it's easier. (It also became easier when my DD was born and I started being able to indulge my girly side on her pages, LOL.)

I didn't really have an answer. My first reaction was HECK NO but then I went back through my layouts and found a few that used flowers, very few (and several of those few were actually quickpages so I had no control over the flowers) though. In general, I'd say no. I actually have a hard time using flowers. I like actual flowers (real, living flowers) but I am not big on floral patterns or floral accents. I guess that all translates to my scrapping too. I use flowers now and again but I typically go for other unique elements in a kit first. To me flowers are just fluff. When I design a kit they always seem to be the last thing I add and I only add them because others rave about flowers. LOL
