Default silly question-how many bags of garbage..

does your family.. put out.. a week? and how big is your family? I always feel like we have an excessive amount of trash for the kid and I .. so I'm curious

I think about 3? I don't normally take the garbage out - leave it for dh but yeah I think it's 3.

eta - and there's 3 of us. and we fill it to the very top.

We totally say this, everytime we are bagging up! It does seem excessive! There are 5 of us here - two adults, three boys (8, 5, 23 mos). and I'd say we have at least 4 kitchen garbage bags, or about 2 of the big black garbage bags per week - and that doesnt include the things that dont get bagged up, like big bottles, kitty litter containers, big bags of empty dog food bags (we put trash in those too!)

It's INSANE!

Jeff and I usually have 1-2 when it's just us plus a bag of recycle. With the kids here the summer (2 almost teenagers), we've had more like 3-4.

A lot. usually 2-3 bags per garbage day which is 2x a week so about 5-6 bags a week...kitchen sized bags...but we're still in diapers around here I'm like you though...every time I tie up another bag I think, HOW do we have so much trash?!

We put out 2 bags every 2 weeks (family of four), but here we recycle and compost, so the garbage would of course be less.

I think it's four or five of the tall kitchen bags for us - and we're a family of five.

We have a large recycle bin that takes all our plastic, paper, glass and aluminium, so we only need to put out 1 black trash bag a week. And it's just me and the two kids at the moment. Somehow when DH is home we end up with 1.5 - 2 bags a week.

We have 2 or 3 bags once a week. Our limit here is 3 bags or cans per week, but I think that's to encourage recycling - I love that this town supplies paper/cardboard bins for recycling that they pick up, and they pick up plastic, aluminum, and glass, so that definately cuts our trash waaaaaaaay down. They also pick up yard waste weekly.

we usually have one of the big outside garbage cans (like 50 gallon I think?) full to the top twice a week.

We put out 2-3 bags a week, with a family of 4. We have curbside recycling though, and that cuts waaay down on our garbage.

Usually 4 or 5 and there are 5 of us. We always have a lot of trash, because recycling isn't readily available here for paper and cardboard at this time.

1-2 for our family of 4. We have recycling and we compost, so that cuts down a lot.

1.5 full outdoor trashcans, the big black garbage bag type. That is about 8-9 or so kitchen garbage bags. There are 4 of us & recycling is not available in the county

An average of a bag a day for us. It will probably go down once school starts.

We have 2 pick-ups a week -one trash, one recyclying, for those huge cans and they are always full. But for kitchen trash only (not recycling), about a bag a day with a family of 6. My oldest DS has only been gone a few days so I don't know if us going down to a family of 5 is going to make a difference or not. We are not allowed to bag our recycling or separate it, so it's hard to tell how much that is each week.

Average about 1 per day, some days more, some days less.

We're a family of 5 with 2 in diapers.

2-3 bags (13 gal kitchen bag size)... family of 3... and one of us are still in diapers...

My hubby (who designs garage bag machines... glamorous, right?) wants to know if you use draw string bags... if not, he highly recommends it... majority of those bags are produced on his machines that he designed.

We have 7 people in our house and we recycle cans, bottles and plastic, so that stuff is not included in the garbage. We get ours collected once a week and we usually have 3 -4 39 gallon bags packed full, but I still have 2 kids in diapers so that's a lot of garbage right there!!!!

I think we use 2-3 a week for a family of 5. And we can recyle paper, plastic, glass, etc... so we have a lot of that too.

2-3 kitchen bags a week, with 2 adults and 3 children, no diapers. We recycle cardboard & newsprint/paper only (due to lack of storage space to recycle more items like glass, cans, etc).

We have 3 wheelie bins - 1 for the rubbish, 1 for the recycling (paper, glass, tins, cardboard, plastic bottles etc.) and 1 for the gardening rubbish

The rubbish bin used to be filled to the top and we had to climb in and squash it down but now that we recycle lots and lots it is only half filled now - and the recycling bin is full to the top! The rubbish gets collected every week and they collect the recycling/gardening alternate weeks

1 bag every two-three weeks. We have a family of four and dog. (two adults, two kids No diapers, yay!)

We have recycling- plastics-bottles-aluminum-paper-compost and more. Very little actually ever goes in our trash. I love how much KOR recycles, hope to be able to do the same back home!

No recycling out here either. We're a family of 3 right now, and if you don't count diapers, it works out to be around 3 kitchen size garbage bags a week.

We are only with two and in my hometown we have three containers. One for everyday garbage (will be emptied once every two weeks). We mostly have 2-3 bags per 2 weeks. One container for vegetables, garden garbage etc. And one for paper but that one is only emptied once a month. Further we separate glass.

We average about 2 bags per week with a family of 5 (one in diapers.) We recycle alot though and that helps big time. There are some weeks that we can get by with only 1 bag.

It used to be 4-5. Now we have single stream recycling so it's down to 2-3

There are 3 of us.

We are a family of 5 and we take out a (kitchen) bag to the large trash can outside every other day or so. By Friday (trash day), it's full!

Lots. I think there is a landfill out there with our family's name on it. We have 7 in our family and we have two large trash cans we put out every week.
