Default Currently Reading Week of 6/9

What's the last book you finished?
What are you reading right now?
What's on your TBR?

What's the last book you finished?

The Fellowship of the Ring (audible)

The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkein (audible)

The Witches by Roald Dahl - This wasn't my fave Dahl...the kids didn't like it much either

The Thickety by J.A. White - this is middle grade fantasy and I super enjoyed it..it's pretty dark though so I'd say only for mature middle graders. Great story.

The Thickety: The Whispering Trees by J.A. White - had to pick this one up after finishing the first and I liked it even better...sadly the 3rd in the series is not out yet

What are you reading right now?

The Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon

The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan (with the kids and they love it)

The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkein My audiobook right now..this is a reread of this series for me and I am really enjoying them and super impressed at how well Peter Jackson adapted them to film. I'd not read them since way before the movies.

Storybound by Marissa Burt

What's on your TBR?

It's been on my TBR for a while but I AM going to get to the All Soul's Trilogy within the next few weeks...

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

and if I enjoy Storybound, I'll probably pick up Story's End by Marissa Burt

and my next audiobook is Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen

What's the last book you finished?

The Venetian Mask by Rosalind Laker - The period and setting fascinate me, but the plot was just eh.

The Son by Jo Nesbo - Loved this one; dark, gritty and captivating

What are you reading right now?

Bel Canto by Ann Pachett

What's on your TBR?

Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese

I love this thread because I'm always adding your finished books to my wish list!!

First off was Shingaling: A Wonder Story which I adored!! I thought there would be more of Auggie (which is why I got it) but I liked the cute story anyway. Faith (my youngest) has started it.

I also finished We Were Liars . Didn't even see the twist at the end coming at all.

When You Reach Me was a fun read. I think my youngest would like it. It took me a while to figure out the plot! Fun story.

I love, love, love The Longest Ride . I need to watch the movie now!!! I need more stories like this.

I am currently reading Crossed but am losing steam. I'm hoping something good happens soon before I put it down. Elyse keeps telling me to finish it!

Oh Kjersti, I loved the Longest Ride, too. I can't wait for the movie to come to Netflix!

I just finished reading [Sic] by Scott Kelly. It was a quick, easy read. Different. Enjoyable. But not the best book I've ever read. I'd say 3 stars.

I just started the Selection series last night, and I"m already 1/2 way through the first book. Super easy to read and entertaining. The description described it as a cross between Hunger Games & The Bachelor, and I'd say that's pretty accurate!. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Libby - You'll be done with the Selection Series by the end of the week. Those were so fun to read!! Chloe can eat cereal for dinner right? You'll be too busy reading
I still haven't read book 4 (The Heir) so if you get to it first let us all know what you think!

You aren't even joking! I have the first 2 books on my Kindle now, and I'm next in line for the 3rd one at the library. There's a bit of a wait for the 4th one, but I'm hoping it goes quickly!

At this point, everyone get cereal for dinner and no new kits until the books are finished. LOL

I'm in a reading slump... having read several in a row that just completely failed to draw me in.

Recently Read :

with my 9yr old son... the 3rd in the series and our least favorite so far.

it took me a month to get through this... not sure why, didn't connect with the characters and was able to guess the twist in the storyline too early on.

the writing here is pretty decent... although found the plot and characters rather under developed. an overall meh.

I really enjoyed the writing in this one and liked the author's approach to this genre. by the end I was slightly frustrated as it left me with a lot of unanswered questions.

currently reading :

I've been trying to get through this one for a month. I'm not loving any of the characters that much and have been pretty turned off by all the animal abuse/violence towards animals. am about 70% through it, not sure i'll finish...

Krista - what do you think of the book Lean In? I watched Sheryl Sandberg's Ted Talk and really enjoyed it. I may have to add it to my wish list!!
